Johor Bahru Ipoh Chicken Hor Fun 唐记鸡丝河粉

唐记鸡丝河粉 is the bench mark in Johor Bahru for good Ipoh style chicken hor fun soup. When JB foodies discuss chicken hor fun, they often ask "so how does it compare with 唐记"?

唐记鸡丝河粉 is a little chicken hor fun stall in Old Eight in One Restaurant (kopitiam) run by a camera shy couple from Ipoh for nearly 20 years.

I've been craving Ipoh style chicken hor fun for a while, so we went in straight for the largest serving at RM6.50 (SGD2.20).

The cloudy medium bodied broth was made mainly by boiling chicken bones for hours. It had a smooth layered kind of savouriness with a hint of crustacean umami flavour. The savouriness was nicely balanced with sweetness.

I love this rich comforting chicken soup.

There were three or four shelled little prawns in the bowl. They were juicy and had a nice soft crunch.

There were several bite size pieces of chicken in the hor fun. The chicken pieces were tender and had nice natural chicken flavour. It was the same as good poached chicken used in the best Hainanese chicken rice.

Soft slurpy sar hor fun (rice ribbon noodles).

While living in Kuala Lumpur, we often drive (1.5 hours) from KL to Ipoh when we crave for a good Ipoh chicken hor fun. Now, we can just go to 唐记鸡丝河粉 in JB for a good fix of Ipoh chicken hor fun.

I want to come back for this chicken hor fun with a whole drumstick (RM7). Looks irresistibly yummy :-D

  3. My last visit there on Dec 2020, prices raised to rm7 for medium bowl and only get chicken breast meat... disappointing.
