Today is my cafe hopping and good coffee appreciation day in Johor Bahru. We started at 10am in the morning and left the last cafe at 10pm at night 😄 It's quite a tiring day but we felt very high throughout the day 😄
Our first cafe stop was Vanilla Bean Cafe & Patisserie.

To get to Vanilla Bean, just inform the security guard at the gate that you are going to the cafe - they will let you in without requiring documents as Vanilla Bean has a lot of visitors everyday 😄
Good coffee in a simple, no frills ambiance.
The house made cakes and savouries are delicious.
Our second cafe stop was Kafe Alley Lab.

Alley Lab has interesting sweet desserts. Alley Lab also serves a range of excellent sandwiches with fresh ingredients between ultra light crispy toasts.
For our next stop, we went out of JB town to My Liberica Farm in Bukit Nyamuk near Kalapa Sawit which is near Kulai and Johor Premium Outlets. My Liberica Farm is about 1 hour drive from JB.

My Liberica Farm supplies beans to their brand of cafes and also to clients in Johor and KL.
My Liberica farm and cafe owner, Jason is a coffee evangelist. Jason gladly hosts groups to show them the coffee plantation and processing facilities.
At the farm, guests are able to taste My Liberica coffee and talk about coffee in a well appointed cafe.
If you like to know how coffee got from beans on a shrub to that aromatic cup on your desk, give Jason a call and make arrangements to visit My Liberica Farm.
After My Liberica Farm, we took a coffee break, I mean, a break from coffee and had dinner at Restoran Xiang Mann in Kulai - a family style zhi char shop. The popular dishes here are fried pork rib known as "one bone 一隻骨" and kampung chicken.

Yes, you heard right - it's omakase, coffee omakase - probably the only one in the world.
Every Tuesday at 8:00pm, The Brew Orchestra owner, Isaac serves his best coffees of the week, omakase style. It is attended by die hard coffee enthusiasts from JB, Singapore and KL. Isaac charges on a cost recovery basis, which is about RM50 per person. The idea is for coffee kakis to share insights and bond over cups and glasses of excellent coffee.
👍 Am honoured to meet barista Lucas, Malaysia's reigning latte art champion at The Brew Orchestra. He is such a friendly and humble person 😄
Our last cafe stop of the day was the My Liberica cafe in Taman Molek.
Address: 73, Jalan Molek 3/10, Taman Molek, Johor Bahru
GPS: 1°31'17.5"N 103°47'05.3"E | 1.521536, 103.784812
Tel: +60 7-361 1069
Hours: 12:30am to 10:30pm
I had a stout coffee at My Liberica. It's actually chilled Liberica infused with nitrogen and CO2. The coffee has the fizz of a cold stout and the flavour of nice malty coffee 😄
Finally, we toasted the night with champagne - actually, an iced tea brewed with cascara, the dried skin of coffee berries. It tastes really good, like a sweet red date tea.
👉 We had a great day today - tasted many great coffees in Johor, made new friends who share the love of coffee and re-affirming our bonds with good friends. Coffee is a great bond building liquid.
👉 This post is a summary, providing only itinerary information. I am following up with detailed posts of all the cafes visited in this itinerary. All these cafes are excellent and I highly recommend them to you.
