Delicious Stopover at Storey Ria in Taman Kebun Teh JB

Storey-Ria-Taman-Kebun-Teh-JB

Brunch today at Storey Ria off the Tebrau Highway in Taman Kebun Teh. I like this quiet little eatery which offers a good range of local Malay, Indonesia, Indian, Nyonya and Chinese favourite dishes, snacks and desserts. I tried just the nasi lemak and some kueh today, and will be back for more.

Storey Ria is a simple shop lot eatery in a quiet (but easily accessible) part of Taman Kebun Teh. Furnishings are basic but comfortable with a nice welcoming, local feel. It is very clean and well kept.

Storey Ria serves a wide range of curries, rendang, deep fried and stir fried dishes. Storey Ria is a popular caterer among locals but is one JB's best kept secrets among Johoreans 😄

Storey Ria started as a nasi lemak push cart stall along Jalan Keris in Taman Sri Tebrau before launching into a catering service and restaurant in 1991.

There is a small selection of daily fresh kueh (sweet snacks) including Nyonya kueh Baba.

The sambal station.

I had nasi lemak with beef rendang (price RM11.90).

Customers can have any sides from the buffet of dishes (at different prices) like at a nasi campur stall. The common nasi lemak sides are beef, chicken, lamb rendang, spicy fried chicken and sambal fish.

The rice was tender and had just very slight coconut flavour.

The sambal chili is sweet spicy with underlying anchovy savouriness.

The beef rendang was tender and juicy but slightly chewy to the bite. The beef tasted strongly savoury, mildly spicy.

Ondeh Ondeh. Couldn't resist the green pandan coloured glutinous rice balls coated in grated coconut. Inside the tender ball were more grated coconut moist with caramelised palm sugar. Nice 😋

Love Storey Ria's kueh talam, especially the white-green coconut and pandan one. It was so tender, moist and full of rich coconut flavour and pandan fragrance.

I wanted to try their chendol but was told to wait 2 hours as the coconut milk haven't arrived from the market stall yet. At least, now I know that their coconut milk is daily market fresh 😄 Must order next time.

These tender little yam cakes were excellent as they were filled with small pieces of yam held together by rice flour with mild spice flavour.

👉 Storey Ria is a nice little eatery for a tasty local meal and hot drink on the way up north from JB to Malacca/ KL etc as it is just 15 minutes from the JB CIQ and opens at 7:00am (except Sunday). Pack some nice Nyonya kueh to eat in the car too 😄

I shall be back as there are so much more to try at Storey Ria.
