Imperial Paragon Cuisine • Mind Blowing Crab Fried Rice in Johor Bahru 百麗皇朝 蟹肉炒饭

Imperial Paragon Cuisine | Level 1, Grand Paragon Hotel, 18, Jalan Harimau, Taman Century, 80250 Johor Bahru ☎ +607 338 3588 🕚 11:30 am - 3 pm | 5:30pm - 10 pm | No Pork No Lard

From now on, I will eat fried rice at Imperial Paragon Cuisine.

Imperial Paragon in Grand Paragon Hotel is about 10 minutes drive from Johor Bahru CIQ and next to Cedar Point Food Centre. KSL and the Monday pasar malam is nearby.

The main dining hall was spacious, carpeted, decor harked back to the 90s, furnishings were plush and very comfortable. There were many big round tables perfect for eat togethers.

There were a few private rooms including this huge, well appointed suite. Perfect for gatherings like birthday celebrations.

Checked out the swimming live seafood while waiting for the food to be served.

Segamat boy, Chef Benson is co-owner of Imperial Paragon and also KS Treasure in Taman Sentosa. Chef Benson previously worked with Singapore's Tung Lok Group, Hakkasan in Miami Florida, and Ritz Calton in Shanghai.

We had quite a lot of dishes but I want to tell you about the crab fried rice first.

The dish was called Panda Rice with Fresh Crab Meat (price RM128++) - mix of white and brown grains, hence it's dubbed panda rice 🐼

It's long grain rice, mostly white grains interspersed with a bit of brown grains. There were pulled crab meat, ebiko (prawn roe), dried scallop, scallion, egg white, etc.

I was mind blown by the first mouthful of fried rice.

The texture of the fried rice was special. The long grains were well separated, not greasy, they felt like glutinous rice but with little starch so they felt firm, springy, gently chewy but not hard. It is fun biting on these long grains.

The rice tasted gently umami, savoury, sweet from crab, dried scallop, ebiko, egg white, etc.

This crab fried rice is a pleasure.

🎗Some readers came but could not try the fried rice as they were sold out. May I suggest calling the restaurant to reserve before you come ☎ +607 338 3588 🙏

Then, there was this three dish promotional set meal of crab, prawn and fish for RM198++. Awesome value for money.

Deep Fried Salad Prawn Roll with Chicken Floss.

The meaty juicy crunchy prawn encased in a crisp browned batter dressed with a sweet tasting sauce and garnished with cubed dragon fruit, mango, etc.

I like this.

Chili Crab. The crustacean I estimate weigh around 500 grams.

The crab was fresh, its tender meat sweet.

The sauce was thick, tasted mildly tangy, sweet, crustacean umami, savoury, spicy. Served with four fried mantou (buns).

Wild Marble Goby with Tempeh Sauce.

Fried Soon Hock fish soft tender and moist. Set in a sour sweet spicy savoury sauce with tempeh and dried chili.

At RM198++ limited time promotion, I feel the fried prawn, fried Soon Hock and chili crab set is good value for money. Phone them ☎ +607 338 3588, if you like to come for this RM198++ deal.

Wok Fried Australian Wagyu Beef with Black Pepper Sauce.

Despite the robustly savoury peppery sauce, the beefiness from the tender spongy Wagyu shone through. A must try dish for beef lovers visiting Imperial Paragon.

Chongqing Spicy Crispy Chicken.

Chicken cubes battered and fried to a golden brown crisp outside while inside, the chicken remained tender and moist.

Enjoy the fried chicken with spicy fried ginger and dried chili.

Two Taste Hong Kong Kailan

The leafy part of the vegetable was cut into strips and fried to a crisp. The stems were served crunchy and juicy.

Braised Bean Curd Mushroom Broth.

I like this thick savoury sweet soup with smooth bean curd and tiny dried scallops for umami and texture.

Rounded up our dinner with a sweet tangy zesty jelly dessert.
