Came to Clementi Hawker Centre for Song Fish Soup.
Stall opened at 10:30am sharp, the stated business hour 👏 A few regulars had waited and a queue formed up quickly. Orders were taken while people were still in the queue, which cleared quickly and efficiently. Stall holder 宋德和 and staff were friendly and polite too. This stall has a warm heartland neighbourly feel.
The menu was on the stall front. Big and bright, clear and simple. Besides fried and blanched fish, they have other seafood like lala clams and prawns as well as dried fish maw.
I ordered the 鸳鸯 mixed deep fried fish and fresh fish soup. There's option of adding milk but I stuck with clear.
I was surprised that this still cost S$6 in today's market. I just had soup with no carbs (there's choice of thick and thin bee hoon, and boiled rice).
Even sans the milk, the soup was brownish cloudy (not watery clear). Tasted savoury salty and a bit greasy from the fried stuff in the soup.
Around five pieces fried fish lightly battered, nicely browned.
Large pieces of frozen dory.
Blanched batang fish slices with skin on (I like it with skin as it subtly adds more flavour and texture).
The slice was thick and fresh enough.
Fried egg floss soaking in the soup adding flavours to the soup and soaking up flavours from it.
Vegetables in the soup, cabbage, bitter gourd, tomatoes. No tofu in my bowl.
A comforting, filling, affordable meal. Well loved by local residents and added to the Michelin guide Bib Gourmand list in 2024.

For the cloudy soup type I like Cai Ji in Ang Mo Kio.
My personal preference is still for the watery clear soup type such as:
