We drove a hundred kilometres from Johor Bahru to Yong Peng to look for Foo Chow food in Malaysia's Little Fuzhou. We found it at Fook Chew Restaurant 永平福州餐馆 along Yong Peng's only main street, Jalan Besar.

Hock Chew Red Wine Mee Suah in Johor Bahru

Came back to this back street Hock Chew food restaurant in this ulu 鳥不生蛋的地方 place in JB where even "birds won't come to lay eggs" for their red rice wine mee suah. (Relax, this place is just 15 minutes from JUSCO / IKEA Tebrau and Waze takes you to the doorstep.)

Old Froggie Lau Kup Poh. Yong Peng People's Favourite Noodles

Yong Peng is one of my favourite stops for the drive from JB to KL as it is slightly over one third way between the two cities. Buddy John told me about the popular noodle shop known to locals as Lau Kup Poh or Old Froggie.

I always wanted to try traditional Fuzhou kompia made with the tandoor type of charcoal oven, the way they do it in Sitiawan (Perak) and Sibu (Sarawak). So, I was really excited when foodies in JB started sharing about a traditional kompia stall operating in Taman Ungku Tun Aminah (TUTA) in Johor Bahru.

Fuzhou Noodles at Ah Chong in Johor Jaya JB 亚春面之家 ⭐⭐⭐⭐✱

This morning, I joined buddy John at one of his favourite haunts in Taman Johor Jaya for Hock Chiew noodles at Ah Chong stall. John hails from Setiawan (Perak state) where most Chinese there are Hock Chiew - Ah Chong stall is where John gets his Foochow or Fuzhou comfort food.
