Stalking Margaret Drive Hawker Centre past the lunch hour, noticed that Queenstown Lontong was still opened. Quickly got my lontong fix and my tummy cured 醫肚子, as I haven't had lunch yet. It was a very satisfying and satiating lunch all for S$5.

Singapore's newest hawker centre, the spanking new Margaret Drive Hawker Centre with 38 food stalls opened in Aug 2022 but it has much older roots. MDHC was one of my favourite haunts for lunch and supper when I was working and living nearby in the 1980s. Despite its name, very few of the stalls at the new MDHC came from the old Margaret Drive food centre. Most stalls are from Tanglin Halt Food Centre which is slated for en bloc redevelopment.

After stalking MDHC for over a month, these stalls are the most popular with the folks here and I enjoyed them too.

Tian Xiang Wanton Noodle · Heavenly Fragrance @ Margaret Drive Hawker Centre 天香雲吞面

We gathered at the spanking new Margaret Drive Hawker Centre. I came early to survey the food stalls. Stalwarts from the demolished Tanglin Halt hawker centre like Thunder Tea Rice and Tong Kee Chicken Rice have moved here together with many others into the double storey hawker centre.

Circling the hawker centre, stalking the stalls, the divine aroma of lard and sesame oil from Tiang Xiang wanton noodle stopped me in my tracks.

Tong Kee Chicken Rice 東記雞飯 · Margaret Drive Hawker Centre

Tong Kee Chicken Rice stall has settled nicely at their new location at the ground level of Margaret Drive Hawker Centre. It has re-established itself quickly and is now one of the busiest stalls at the spanking new centre.
