| Lin Traditional Chicken Rice | 7 Maxwell Rd, stall #01-59, Singapore 069111 (Amoy Street Food Centre) 🚅 5 minutes walk from Maxwell station ⏰ 10:30am - 3pm (Sat & Sun off) |
Stalking Amoy Street Food Centre today, I noticed a long queue at Lin Traditional Chicken Rice stall. Chatting with another stall holder here, he suggested that I give Lin Traditional a try - cheap and good he said.
And so, here I am joining the queue (after the lunch crowd, constant 20 deep queue had subsided).
There were $4 / $5 set options - I opted for $5 which had more meat. There's poached and deep fried - the default was fried (if the customer did not specify).
Hot soup was self help with the dispenser at the left of the stall.
Quite generous amount of meat and skin. Choice of sauce or none - I opted for it, I mean with sauce.
The fried skin was well browned and had a nice savoury sweet taste. The brown sauce had a similar savoury sweet profile but sweeter.
The chicken was served deboned. The meat was soft moist but not juicy. Tasted sweet in a flat way. Little or no chicky type sweetness. Layered flavours came from chewing the meat and skin together.
Nice though not mind blowing.
I like Lin's rice. The grains had the just right tender nutty texture, moistness, loose grains that don't lump together.
The grains were infused and overlaid with a nice savoury sweet chicky flavour. Very light oil sheen on the grains, didn't feel greasy.
Forgot to take a photo of the chili sauce. It was very sharp spicy hot, sour, and salty.
Gently savoury sweet clear soup.
I don't eat raw cucumber, especially with hard bitter skin 😝
To me, the main draw of Lin Traditional Chicken Rice was good value, fast efficient service, and quite tasty rendition of a well loved staple. It's designed for a dependable, no hassle, filling, quick meal. Serves the needs of a busy office eat-and-run lunch time crowd well.
Next time, I shall try Lin's poached chicken which I heard was pretty good - share with us your comments, if you have tried.

Thanks sir. Somehow never eat chicken rice at Amoy cos got too much to choose from already! The Piao Qi fish soup one of my all time faves. The Ah Ter's grandson is selling similar signature at Maxwell close by.
