Driving along Jalan Kluang between Batu Pahat town and the Ayer Hitam toll, you will see a row of rustic looking but new shophouses known as Old Street 老街坊. This place, a popular watering hole with locals, is just a stone's throw from Pacific Mall.

There are several eateries, cafes and pubs here. I'll be back here a few more times to explore this place.

It was late in the afternoon, when we dropped by at Continue Cafe & Bistro which is located on the second level.

We love the ambiance and the London theme inside. Lots of red bricks, hard wood, cast iron and warm orange light - the place feels classy, classic and casual at the same time. It's cool inside, shielding us from the blazing sun of tropical Malaysia.

On one of the walls, there were collectibles and memorabilia. If I have the chance to meet the owner, I would love to learn more about them from him or her.

Some of the interesting classic car models.

Outside, there's al fresco dining continuing the same London theme.

Nice, quaint seats converted from a classic Volkswagon van.

The heap of fresh lettuce, capsicum, cherry tomatoes, pea sprouts 豆苗 and egg wedges is served with Thousand Island sauce, dribbles of Lady's Choice REAL mayonnaise and sesame sauce.

It's a salmon patty with lettuce slathered with lots of tartar sauce between sweet pandan buns with sesame seeds.

We enjoyed this salmon burger with it's blend of sweet, savoury and tangy flavours with the characteristic taste of salmon fish.

We had Continue's seafood pasta RM18.90++. For the sauce we went for "ginger garlic" which is a blend of teriyaki with ginger and garlic juices. The soft spaghetti sat on the pool of sweet teriyaki sauce with slight ginger and garlic type of mild spiciness.

We had fresh juices at RM6.90++ each.

Of course, we treated ourselves to a cup of cappuccino at RM6.90++. The blend today was San Augustine Huila Arabica from Columbia. It's round bodied, acidic and chocolaty, with a subtle citrusy finish.

Our total bill came to RM51.52.

Continue Cafe & Bistro is a nice place to cool our heels after a visit to Batu Pahat, and before driving back to JB or KL as it is conveniently located along the trunk road (Jalan Kluang) between BP and the NSE highway. The ambiance is among the most interesting I've seen anywhere. The latte at RM6.90++ a cup is good value.

  1. Dear Tony, I enjoy your makan adventures. But lately I realise you have started rating the places you visited. Is it due to popular demand? Perhaps you should consider highlighting the positives instead of rating the establishment. A person takes a lot of risks financially to pursue their dreams of opening a restaurant, cafe or even a simple hawker stall. Your ratings may unintentionally make potential customers avoid patronising them. I hope that you will take that into consideration. Thank you and I look forward to more makan adventures from your blog.

    1. Thank you Audrey for your feedback. I agree with you and share your sentiments. At the same time, most readers prefer me to provide ratings. After further thought about this and your feedback, I decided that only exceptional places which are 4-star and 5-star will have their ratings shown. The 4-star and 5-star are rare, special places among good places which make up the majority of eateries in my blog. Thank you again Audrey for your valuable feedback which helped me clarify my own thoughts on this. Wish you happy eating.
