Marsiling Ter's Teochew Fishball & Minced Meat Noodles Bak Chor Mee 马西岭 · 亚猪潮州鱼圆面 · 肉脞面

Ter's Teochew Fishball and Minced Meat Noodles | 20 Marsiling Lane, stall #01-11, Singapore 730020    🚅 15 minute walk from Woodlands station ⏰ 6am - 2pm
Saw buddy Tengcc shared about Ter's Teochew Fishball and Minced Meat Noodles at Marsiling Lane market & hawker centre 🙏 It looked delicious, so I went down to Marsiling to give it a try.

Ter's was at an inside corner of the hawker centre - had it not been Tengcc's mention, I would have missed it again.

This was what I got for S$6 - S$4.50 for the basic noodle set, add S$0.50 for handmade fishball, S$1 for tee poh.

I opted for mee pok noodles. They were done tender slightly soft.

A quick toss coated the flat strands fully with savoury spicy sweet lardy aromatic sauce.

Flavours were a little on the mild side but a dash of soy sauce plus chili padi fixed everything 😁 Tuned the flavours and intensity to the right level for me.

Have tee poh, have fresh pork lard croutons, hallmarks of good Teochew bak chor mee.

I also like stewed mushrooms in my bak chor mee for more flavour and texture.

The complementary soup with fishball, pork ball, pork and liver slices, raw fresh lettuce, fish dumpling, wanton, etc. The clear, tea colour soup was mildly porcine sweet savoury.

The handmade fishball was nice. Tender springy with a subtle fresh fish sweetness.

The best things in the bowl were the unremarkable looking small square shaped thin slices of pork liver.

But, they were expertly done. Very fresh, soft moist powdery to the bite. Porcine sweet with subtle liver taste.

Next time, I shall ask for extra liver.

Ter's serves a nice traditional bak chor mee at an affordable price.

Thomas and wife Justina run the stall together
After enjoying my bak chor mee, I asked the stallholders, the 6 Million Dollar question, "how are you related to Ah Ter at Amoy Street Food Centre"?

I mean, why is your stall also named Ter 猪 (Teochew for pig).

Oh... Boss Thomas is the younger brother of Ah Ter.

The two brothers ran Ah Ter minced meat noodle stall at Lai Lai coffee shop in Katong (I have never been there before - anyone remember, please comment 🙏 ).

In the 1990s, Ah Ter moved to Amoy Street and Thomas came here to Marsiling hawker centre. Thomas still uses the name Ter's because he has a lot of respect for his brother.

Ter's at Marsiling has very low social media profile. If you Google search for Ter's, it will churn out articles on Ah Ter of Amoy Street instead.

  2. "Lai Lai coffee shop" - would this be the 24-hr (?) coffeeshop/food court at the ground floor of Lai Lai Complex (which had a billiard saloon and "health centre" upstairs), which was located between Roxy Square/Katong Plaza and Paramount Hotel?
The site was redeveloped quite a while ago (more than 10 years?), and MODA condominium currently stands at that location.
