Jombali Village in Pelangi Johor Bahru • Indonesian Inspired Cuisine ☏ +6017 733 5577

 JomBali Village | No.39A, Jalan Perang, Taman Pelangi, 80400 Johor Bahru, Malaysia ☏ +6017 733 5577 ⏰ 2pm - 10:30pm
Eight of us, we rounded up our dawn till dusk JB food trail at JomBali Village in Taman Pelangi.

It was Tuesday pasar malam (night market) at Taman Pelangi, so we were initially a little worried about car parking. Turned out there was ample parking, maybe we were just lucky or we were early at 6pm.

JomBali was on level two, so there was a short flight of stairs to climb.

Beautiful mood lighting interior with heavy dark hardwood furnishings and rattan lamp shades.

It did felt like Bali again.

There was an air conditioned interior and a large al fresco balcony space looking out to the Tuesday pasar malam below.

Open kitchen where we can see the chefs in action.

Most dishes serve two or three, so we had two servings of each as there were eight of us.

Truffle Butter Clam Soup.

Chili Shrimp Clam Soup.

Succulent soft tender juicy umami rich molluscs with complementary sauces.

Flame Grilled Sea Prawns.

Grilling brought out the crustacean umami and complemented it with smokiness from slight charring.

Ikan Bakar Bali.

Meaty heavily sauced with savoury and sweet balanced flavours with a touch of spiciness and aromatics.

Next time, I want to try their fried sea bass presented the Indonesian flying gourami style 😁

Pucuk Paku Gulai.

I always order this juicy "fleshy" soft crunchy fern whenever it is available. Served in heavy robust savoury salty slightly spicy belacan (terasi in Indonesian) sauce.

Grilled Sweet Corn. The kernels were all removed from the core, so it was very convenient to eat. The soft tender juicy kernels were very sweet, complemented with a slight savoury and toasty taste. Love this.

Grilled Wagyu Steak.

Beautifully done medium rare. Beefy juicy slightly chewy cut. Not much marbling or sweetness.

Nasi Goreng Hitam (squid ink) with poppy umami shrimp roe.

Nasi (boiled rice with lemongrass), the obligatory carb.

When we arrived at JomBali we were already (very) full from the day's food trail. But, we still wiped out everything on our table, despite having two servings of every dish.

JomBali is a good place for get-togethers.
