Closed - Dim Sum at Yit Foong City Restaurant in Taman Gaya, Johor Bahru

Tim-Sum-Johor

I've often heard grumbles that JB does not have exquisite dim sum. Or, more accurately, foodies grumble that they can't find exquisite dim sum in JB, except at expensive restaurants.

Today, I stumbled upon Yit Foong City Restaurant, a simple shoplot restaurant in Taman Gaya that serves expensive restaurant standard dim sum at only slightly higher than kopitiam prices. The three Cham brothers who run the newly opened restaurant had worked in restaurants in KL and Singapore before applying their skills together in this new family venture.

Everything at Yit Foong is handmade at the restaurant everyday, so all dim sum are fresh here. Here were what we tried during our visit.

The ingredients used at Yit Foong were all fresh and we were able to taste the springiness and refreshing natural flavours that could only come from fresh ingredients. I especially love those dim sum made with bouncy fresh shrimp. There were non of those unappetising reheated thick skinned, deep frozen "dim sum" here.

If you are looking for a new dim sum place to try, Yit Foong is well worth a visit. There is a slight premium for the higher quality dim sum, and I feel that it is well worth the price.

I took a picture of the price list. Sorry that you have to squint your eyes to see the prices but it is possible to make it out :P

  2. Thanks for sharing. The price is high and the serving is small. So I would rather spend a little bit more seating in a air-conditioned dim sum restaurant.

  5. You must be their good buddy huh??? Your review is totally rubbish. I would rather spend my money in New Hong Kong Restaurant.

    1. I do not know the owners. I write up my experience of the food and restaurant as accurately I can. But this was a few months back and I have not been back recently. Meanwhile, I would like to give New Hong Kong a try as you suggested.
