I've passed this way many times but if not for Jason and Alex, I would never have known the good food inside Fakruddin Restaurant at Desker Road. The restaurant is barebones, and the food is not cheap even by Singapore standards e.g. kacchi briyani costs $13 a serving but Fakruddin is one of the go to places for Bangladeshis in Singapore for a taste of home.

Ever since I tasted Nanyang Sauce's all natural, handmade, sun brewed soy sauce, it is hard for me to go back to factory brewed "never seen the sun" sauce. Problem was I had to go back to their Jurong brewery to get my resupply.

Now, I can just pick up my Nanyang sauce at Jewel in Changi Airport whenever I am passing through. In any case, a trip to Changi is so much more convenient than a trip to Jurong 😄 

(Of course, some Nanyang sauce is now also available at NTUC Finest and leading online shops, but the full range is now in Sauce Legend.)

It's not that it has never happened before. Eating from dawn till dusk with an airplane ride in between. Then, go for midnight supper 😰 My stomach was well past full and I was physically, mentally exhausted. But, we already made reservations and promised to go to Jeh O Chula, so we dragged ourselves to supper. It turned out that it was one of the highlights of the entire day and not only because of the excellent food 😄

After an interesting day trip to Ayutthaya, we came to Jodd Fairs for dinner. Jodd Fairs is a new night market, opened only late last year (Nov 2021) but it has already become one of the "Must See, Must Check-in" places in Bangkok, especially for the young and hip (that means all of us lah).

The sprawling night market is chock a block with tent stalls and trucks selling the latest fashion and accessories, providing personal services like manicures and pedicures, and trending foodie treats for social media feeds and adventurous palates.

Indian style mutton soup or sup kambing have long been one of my favourite street food dishes in Singapore and Malaysia. Many people rate Haji M. Abdul Rajak stall in Upper Boon Keng Road, the best in Singapore and I finally got to taste it today 😄 My usual sup kambing fix was in Adam Road (1980s till 2000) and nowadays in Johor Bahru 😄

Mind Blowing Delicious Singapore Cheese Bee Hoon with Wok Hei by Old World

Truth be told when I first heard about cheese bee hoon, I didn't feel excited enough to dash to try it. The idea sounds gimmicky and I am slightly particular about cheese. Pictures of cheese bee hoon surfacing on social media also didn't look appetising 😬 Today's lunch meet up at Old World's new stall in Blk 246 Hougang changed everything 😄

The Historic City of Ayutthaya, founded in 1350, was the second capital city of the Siamese Kingdom. Before it was sacked in 1767 in the war with Burma, Ayutthaya was a global centre of diplomacy and trade as well as one of the world's largest and most cosmopolitan cities. Traders from India, Arabia and China lived together with Thais. At its height, Ayutthaya had a population of over 1 million people. Ayutthaya, home to over 500 Buddhist temples is still the spiritual centre of Thais.

We spent a fascinating day visiting the historic city of Ayutthaya which was Thailand's capital from 1350 to 1767 (more on this in a future post). We stopped for lunch at Sampaonava สำเภานาวา - a nice, small restaurant beside the Chao Phraya River. We had a relatively light meal of four dishes 🙏 which included a pair of amazingly delicious Thai giant river prawns.

Samet Nangshe Viewpoint is a good destination for day trips from Phuket, Krabi or Khao Lak.
