Banana- Cakes-Kampung-Resipi-S'mart-Pandan-Johor-Bahru-JB

You know, when people talk about banana cakes in Johor Bahru, the first thing that come to everyone's mind is Hiap Joo Bakery. Of course, Hiap Joo's banana cakes baked with it's 97 year old wood fired oven have no equal in JB. Nevertheless, my friend John recently introduced me to another delicious banana cake - by Kampung Resipi at S'mart Pandan.

Hokkien Yong Chun Prawn Noodle in Seng Huat kopitiam is a 40 year old brand in Johor Bahru. It has a loyal local following, but has somehow stayed under the social media radar.

Wikipedia photo of Broga Hill

I am joining a trekking trip to Broga Hill and Gunung Tok Wan near Kuala Lumpur organised by The Adventure Village. Trekking is a hobby I like to indulge in whenever the opportunity arises.

The highlights of this weekend escape are Broga Hill & Gunung Tok Wan, Titi town for traditional Hakka food, Kuala Selangor Firefly Park, and Ampang yong tau foo.

No Name Economy Rice & Zhi Char at Bunga Ros, Masai JB ⭐⭐⭐✱✱

Seeing Henry's regular postings from his favourite lunch haunt near the bus terminal at Masai in JB, we couldn't resist checking it out.

Jalan Bunga Ros.

A1 Curry Chicken Mee at Yee Chia Ren Coffee Shop in TUTA JB ⭐⭐⭐✱✱

Went to Taman Ungku Tun Aminah this evening and stumbled upon a newly opened curry chicken noodle stall at Restoran Yee Chia Ren

Jalan Temenggong 11.

Malaysian Traditional Coffee Shop Sunshine 新东升 Kopitiam in Ulu Tiram Johor ⭐⭐⭐

For many people in Malaysia and Singapore, the default breakfast is toast, soft boiled eggs and kopi in the neighbourhood kopitiam (coffee shop).

Chicken Chops Kafe Rasa Ria ⭐⭐⭐✱✱

Today, we visited the Kafe Rasa Ria in Rengit. Looking through their extensive menu of Western style dishes and local favourites, we opted for their chicken chops. We are chicken chop lovers 😀

No Michelin Star Tai Wah Pork Noodles at Hong Lim FC

This is the other 大华 bak chor mee, without the Michelin Star and sans the insane queue. Otherwise, in most other aspects, this Hong Lim Tai Wah and the other Tai Hwa at Crawford Lane are almost identical. Both have their die-hard fans.

Ping Ping Curry Chicken Bee Hoon Mee Hong Lim FC

At Hong Lim food centre, there are 3 chicken curry bee hoon mee stalls. Besides the famous Ah Heng and Heng Kee where there are always long queues, there is another stall, Ping Ping, which is somewhat under the radar.

The Wild - A Promising Young Restaurant in Singapore's West ⭐⭐⭐✱✱

When we were lunching at The Wild last month, co-owner Shan recommended that we try co-owner Chef Jun's signature roast pork belly for dinner.

SUMO Big Prawn, Lobster, Crayfish, La La ⭐⭐⭐✱✱

Yeah, I've been a bit obsessed with SUMO Big Prawn noodle this week. So, this was my third time at Ang Mo Kio Blk 628 food centre because my makan kakis (eating buddies) wanted to eat this prawn mee (again). Today, we went for nearly everything 😱
  1. La la clam soup S$6.90
  2. Big prawn noodle soup S$8.00
  3. Crayfish noodle soup S$13.00
  4. Lobster & big prawn noodle soup S$25.00.

SUMO Big Prawn Noodle - Guest Post by Singapore Ah Seng ⭐⭐⭐✱✱

It's all brudder Carelairfare's fault lah - post those food porn of SUMO Big Prawn Noodle. So, today I buay tahan (cannot resist) have to make an unplanned trip on a rainy morning to Ang Mo Kio Blk 628 food centre to satisfy my craving.

Yong Xiang Xing Dou Fu Yong Tau Foo Singapore People's Park

I have a former colleague who is a big fan of Yong Xiang Xing Dou Fu. Every time we were at People's Park food centre, he would volunteer to queue and buy us yong tau foo for lunch. We joked that he must be a shareholder of Yong Xiang Xing Dou Fu 😝

SUMO Big Prawn Noodle Ang Mo Kio Blk 628 Market & Food Centre ⭐⭐⭐✱✱

When SUMO Big Prawn's noodles starring their lobsters first appeared on my Facebook feed, I didn't really pay much attention. I am not a big fan of gentrification of our street food culture. But, when I saw that they also have "normal" prawn mee, I went down to Ang Mo Kio Blk 628 food centre to give SUMO Big Prawn a try.

Bai Nian Yong Tau Foo with a Delightful Twist in Singapore

I've been seeing a constant line at Bai Nian Yong Tau Foo 百年酿豆腐 when I was food spotting at the sprawling People Park Food Centre for the past two days.

Poy Kee Yong Tau Foo People's Park Food Centre

Exploring People's Park Food Centre, one of my old food haunts this morning, I spotted a long queue at Poy Kee Yong Tau Foo. I've eaten at the famous Yong Xiang Xing Dou Fu here before but it is closed on Monday, so I decided to give Poy Kee a try instead.

Sinagpore's Best Koothurar Nasi Briyani @ Blk 17 Beach Road ⭐⭐⭐⭐✱

Richly flavoured nasi briyani is one of my favourite indulgences. Today, we went to Koothurar Nasi Briyani at Blk 17 Beach Road for our fix. (Most people just know it affectionately as "the Beach Road nasi briyani" as there is no signboard, the best at Beach Road and many say the whole of Singapore.)

Disappearing Singapore Street Food Lao Liang Pork Trotter & Shark Meat Jelly

Over a decade ago when I ate this pork and shark aspic at Lao Liang, there was already this nagging feeling that we may not be having this for very much longer. Ten plus years on, fortunately Lao Liang 老两 stall is still here at Berseh food centre - the same taste, and the same feeling that this may not last much longer.
