Eugene's Grocery is a fine Western foods grocer cum restaurant in JB's Taman Pelangi. Established about 5 years ago, it is well known in the foodie community.
Inside the small shop lot restaurant, the decor and furnishings are simple but well kept and comfortable.
Chef Edison who heads the kitchen, rose through the ranks over 6 years at Eugene's Grocery.
Eugene's Grocery's menu is relatively simple, offering beef, lamb, chicken and fish dishes cooked Western style.
We had Honey BBQ Chicken Chop which is one of their best sellers (price RM26+).
It's a large piece of chicken leg (deboned), marinated with house blended honey sauce and grilled till golden brown. Served with sunny side up, lettuce, cherry tomatoes and fries.
We like this honey BBQ chicken chop. The meaty piece of chicken was tender and juicy, and tasted nicely sweet savoury. I like it that it had a subtle bit of natural chicky sweetness.
Pro-tip: Check out Eugene's Grocery's set lunch promotion. RM15.90+ per set with main course, soup of the day and free flow of drinks. Good value for money for work day lunch in a nice, comfortable environment.
Eugene's Grocery is first and foremost, a fine foods grocer. Customers buy imported beef, lamb or seafood at Eugene's and have chef Edison cook it for a cooking service fee of RM25-RM30 depending on the meat. The cooking service fee includes the soup of the day, mashed potato, and sautéed salad.
We had a 250 gram Aussie wagyu striploin steak marbling score MB6 (today's price RM78 per 100 gram). The wagyu was dry aged 45 days in house.
Oh... it was a jolly good steak.
The wagyu striploin was simply seasoned with salt and black pepper, and grilled to medium rare doneness.
Wooh... this was really good..., that rich savoury sweet beefiness in the tender juicy steak. A bit of mild peppery heat heightened the flavours.
We had a preview of Eugene Grocery's Truffle Duck which will be launched soon. I like that deep golden brown skin outside.
The roast duck was chopped in large chunks so every bite was meaty, juicy and full of flavours.
Eugene's Grocery use a premium quality chilled imported duck which has thicker skin and fat than local Malaysia raised ducks. The tender and juicy duck was rich in savoury ducky flavour without being gamey. The taste and aroma of truffle was subtle.
