During my foodie trip to Hue, we stayed at Imperial Hotel Hue. I enjoyed my stay here, and would use Imperial Hotel again for future visits to Hue.
First things first, it's location, location, location. Imperial Hotel is located at the core of Hue city with many of the places I want to visit within 30 minutes walking distance or less.
The Perfume River and southern head of the historic Truong Tien Bridge is 5 minutes leisurely walk away. Once there at the river, you can visit the riverside museums along Le Loi Street such as Hue Cultural Museum, Embroidery Art Museum of Hue etc.
Walking across the 400 metre Truong Tien Bridge takes you to Cho Dong Ba, Hue's central market. Plenty to see and shop at Cho Dong Ba, and if you are a foodie, here's a good place for Hue specialties like bun bo Hue or "beef noodle from Hue" etc.
Walking leisurely for 10 minutes from the central market takes you to the Citadel and Purple Forbidden City. Whatever you do in Hue, the Purple Forbidden City is the place you must not miss. Otherwise, you cannot claim that you have visited Hue 😂
Coming back to Imperial Hotel, the reception lobby is huge. Checking in is quick and easy as the helpful staff are professional and efficient.
They have multilingual staff so most foreign language speakers will have no problems.
Access to the floors and rooms are by security key card. The decor looks utilitarian modern with an old Hue cultural overlay such as golden columns with twirling dragons. (Yeah, when on vacation I actually prefer this kind of "local flavour" hotel to those generic ultra modern business travel hotels.)
The 36㎡ Deluxe room is spacious with polished dark wooden flooring, very clean, bright, and well kept. The thick and comfortable mattress has the desired firmness and fresh smelling linen. (My pet peeves in hotels are small rooms, smell of stale cigarette or even body odour 😤 - believe me, I've had those in other 5-star hotels before.)
Imperial Hotel staff come in to clean and make up the room everyday 👍
Good size desk where I can use my lappy comfortably. Good signal strength wifi - it's a life and death issue, this. TV with international network subscriptions keep me up-to-date.
The spacious toilet has a shower with a large rain shower head, which is a life saver when coming back inside on a hot, humid day that is Vietnam. The hygiene amenities set is comprehensive - comb, toothbrush, shaver, everything is there.
Two sets of bath, hand towels etc which they come in to change everyday.
Sunset over the Perfume River in Hue, Vietnam |
Good morning Vietnam! 🌞 The same view from my room after a good night's rest. Hue still has its old charms sans those generic glass towers everywhere in the world. The old French quarter is in the foreground. Beyond, on the other of the Perfume River is the ancient imperial city.
Buffet breakfast at Imperial Restaurant on the third floor. There's local delights like banh nam, banh bot loc, noodles, rice, Western staples like beans, sausage, breads, cereal etc. A noodle live station and an egg station. There's local fruits and yogurt, coffee, tea and juices. Clean and comfortable, good selection of simple dishes, plenty of tables and seats including some in the al fresco area.
Starlight lounge on the sixteenth (which is the highest floor). Nice place to chill.
King's Panorama Bar is such a great place to hang out. Nice breeze, great view of the old imperial city. A bit like Paris, don't you think?
I call this the Eiffel Tower of Hue as seen from Imperial Hotel rooftop bar. Actually, it is the Vietnam Television (VTV) Tower.
We had dinner at King's Panorama Bar which overlooks the Perfume River and Truong Tien Bridge which is lit with colourful lights that change colour every few seconds.
We had a nice Italian themed dinner while enjoying the panoramic view of Hue city.
Imperial Hotel has a roof top temple.
The Golden Buddha at Imperial Hotel Hue reminded me of my trip to the sacred Emei Shan mountain in Sichuan, China.
Imperial Hotel has a whole slew of facilities. There's a swimming pool, spa, and a rather basic gym which was not enough to motivate my lazy bones to work out (just a few cardio machines, a squeaky pulley multi-station machine, some dumb bells and mats). Imperial Hotel also has Hue's only casino called Imperial Game Club.
👉 Imperial Hotel was our base during our wonderful trip to Hue. When I go back to Hue again because I am so enchanted by the place, people and food, Imperial Hotel will be at the top of my mind.
