🌜Cabbage Rice and Pork Rib Soup 高麗菜飯. 原汁排骨湯 is a 40 year old, third generation stall serving comforting home style dishes. You know..., grandma's boiled pork ribs with radish and rice cooked with cabbage, eaten with a dip of dark soy sauce, diced garlic and cut chili pepper. Layers of savoury sweetness and natural flavours from the clear soup, fall-off-the-bone meat, and stir fried cabbage with rice. Humble dishes but somehow their multi-generation fans are hooked for life for that familiar old home flavour.

🌜Da-Qiao-Tou Tube Rice Pudding 大橋頭老牌筒仔米糕 is another uniquely Taiwan comfort dish. But, this one is really hot - hot as in it is extremely popular with locals.
They are famous for their pearl glutinous rice seasoned with savoury sauce topped with stewed fatty and lean pork. The rice is packed in small plastic tubs which are steamed in stacks of large bamboo trays (like steamed bun trays) . The steamed rice cake in tub is served transferred to a small bowl. Fans love the savoury sweet comforting flavours infused in the tender starchy rice and from the soft juicy fatty pork. Eaten with a mild sweet chili sauce or another spicier savoury spicy chili/ radish (chai poh) sauce.
Paired with a bowl of savoury sweet pork soup with soft crunchy fresh liver. It's many locals' idea of home.
Besides the signature rice cake they also have lots of other familiar comfort dishes like pork blood curd, oysters etc.

🌜Shih Chia Big Rice Ball 施家鮮肉湯圓 listed in the Taipei Michelin Bib Gourmand Selection 2019 is famous for their meat filled golf ball size mochi 👍 It's a soft, smooth, stretchy chewy glutinous rice ball filled with a tender juicy minced pork ball inside. The inside is soupy savoury sweet peppery as the pork ball is seasoned with some pepper. Served in a bowl of savoury sweet pork bone soup garnished with aromatic grassy chives.
They also serve other familiar comfort dishes like stewed pork rice (lu rou fan), kua bao (stewed pork in a bun), etc.

Yansan Night Market also known as Daqiaotou Night Market is a hidden gem (ok...., not so hidden now since 3 of the shops here are listed in the Taipei Michelin Bib Gourmand Selection 2019). Still, this place retains a local feel without the touristy glitz of Shilin and Raohe night markets. Come here if you like an authentic local night market sans the crushing crowds.
