Umami Chefs by Esseplore. Tasty, Healthy, Convenient Ready-to-Heat Meals Delivered

I had a major operation and was recuperating at home for the last two months - hence, haven't been able to venture out for good food hunting ๐Ÿ˜” I also had to eat a low fat, low sugar, low salt, high nutrition diet to help in my recovery.

Buddy Jimmy asked if I would like to try some ready-to-heat delivery meals from Umami Chefs by Esseplore. So, I tried several dishes during my rest at home. The best tasting meals are always fresh out of the kitchen but if that is not possible, convenient ready-to-heat meals from Umami Chefs by Esseplore are good alternatives.

When I looked into Umami Chefs by Esseplore's menu, I was pleased that there were many dishes and delighted that pricing was very reasonable. Most main dishes costs less than $8 and sides as low as $2.

Our order came to our doorstep in a neat cardboard box.

The dishes came pre-cooked, wrapped in heat safe pouches, blast frozen and delivered to our home in a thermal bag. Blast freezing retains the nutrients in the food which is an important consideration for me recovering from surgery. I chose only heart healthy chicken, fish and vegetarian dishes. Ready-to-heat meals from Umami Chefs by Esseplore also met my (actually my doctor lah... ) requirement for low fat, low salt, low sugar diet.

To eat, just warm up the food in the heat safe pouch according to the instructions on the package. So easy.

Overall, I felt the dishes were flavoursome as Umami Chefs put in lots of spices and herbs in their food, though freshly cooked meals still taste better (but hey, that won't be a fair comparison).

Baked Salmon with Miso Butter and Mirin. The meat is soft-tender and moist. Tastes savoury buttery with just slight signature salmon taste.

Baked Salmon with Basil Pesto. Soft-tender salmon smothered with savoury-herby flavours from a thick coat of basil and parmesan cheese studded with soft pine nuts. Dressed with extra virgin olive oil. Omega rich salmon is exactly what I need to support my recovery from surgery.

Chicken Cacciatore. I like this as the boneless chicken thigh is loaded with nice vegetable and herb flavours from carrot, celery, zucchini, tomatoes, capsicum, mushroom, thyme, oregano, rosemary, basil, onion, garlic, butter, miso paste, etc.

The stewed chicken thigh texture is okay - soft-tender while the vegetables tended to be a little too soft. I like this for its blend of savoury sweet buttery flavours.

Japanese Shigureni Chicken. This has a familiar comforting savoury-salty taste infused in the tender moist boneless chicken thigh. The layers of savoury flavour come from shoyu and dark soy sauce complemented with sake, mirin and ginger.

Moroccan Spice Chicken. I like this tender moist chicken thigh loaded with spice flavours and aromas from paprika, turmeric, cumin, coriander, Cajun spice, cinnamon, pepper and dressed with extra virgin olive oil and lemon juice.

Impossible™ Lasagna. Ground Impossible™ meat flavoured with onion, garlic, celery, carrot, tomato puree, tomato paste, Mozzarella, Parmesan, pepper, oregano, basil, thyme, butter, nutmeg, black pepper, bechamel sauce between pasta sheets.

I might have messed up the heating up as the pasta sheets felt slightly stiff though still tender. The Impossible™ meat was like ground meat, well infused with spice and herb flavours. I just miss the taste and feel of fats in the meat though (my doctor won't let me have it anyway).

Impossible™ Japanese Curry. I like this Impossible™ beef in a sweetish savoury curry of onion, carrot, potato, honey and curry flakes. The vegetable were soft, so it felt like a vegetable stew. The Impossible™ beef was tender but not quite like real beef. Reminds me of Chinese mock meat.

Honey Pumpkin Soup. Sweet savoury creamy soup of pumpkin, onion, garlic, carrot, cream, butter, pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg, etc.

Rosemary & Garlic Potatoes. Roasted baby potatoes with minced garlic, rosemary, butter and dressed with olive oil.

Pilaf Rice. Basmati rice with onion, garlic, cumin, butter cooked in chicken stock.
