The social media buzz about A.B. Rahmat stall's nasi ambang in Taman Sri Tebrau market has been ringing for a few weeks now. Nasi ambeng is available here only on Weds lunch time 11:00am to 2:00pm, so I am glad that I finally managed to get a taste of it today (after missing it a few times).
I arrived at A.B. Rahmat stall before 11:00am to avoid the infamous lunch crowd :D
Still, once the nasi ambang line opened, the action picked up very fast and soon all 5 staff were frenziedly packing for the growing line of customers.
Bumped into my friend Chee Siong who was ahead of me in the queue :-D He was here to buy his usual 6 packets for his family.
Chee Siong later left this message on a Facebook foodie group, "大家要吃的这两个礼拜快快去吃,今天Tony Johor Kaki去拍照了,等他的blog一出,就要大排长龙咯."
"Those who want to try this (nasi ambang) should quickly go eat this within the next 2 weeks, today Tony Johor Kaki went to take photos already, once he blogged it, there will be a longer queue." LOL sorry :-p
This is the standard (default) RM5 (2014 price) serving with everything in, plus a splash of gravy.
And, everything was just nice.
The small fried fish and chicken fried in chili gravy.
The chicken though nice enough wasn't that spectacular as while the chili gravy was good spicy, the tender meat was quite flavourless.
These fried fish were winners. Crispy, sweet and savoury.
Crunchy fried vegetables and aromatic serundeng (fried grated coconut pulp).
A.B. Rahmat's sambal chili is a top draw. It was an addictive well balanced spicy, sweet and savoury blend. Stinging hot but not excessive.
There was also the option of this small salted fish (in place of the fried fish).
I didn't have the chance to speak with the lady boss that day as they were so busy.
Highly recommended.
