Stayed a night at the Permas Jaya branch of 8 Days Boutique Hotel in Johor Bahru.
Getting here from the CIQ after clearing immigration is a breeze via the EDL. Just 10 minutes drive.
8 Days is a home grown boutique hotel chain with three branches in Johor Bahru, namely, Permas Jaya, Impian Emas and Mount Austin.
The aim of 8 Days Boutique Hotel is to provide guests with premium facilities at affordable prices.
Located in shop lots in Johor Bahru, inside 8 Days Boutique Hotels, it has the feel of international brand name hotels.
The reception located right at the entrance is manned round the clock.
A nice place to relax at the lobby.
Access to the lift to the 2 upper floors of rooms is controlled by security key card. An essential security feature even some larger, longer established hotels lacked.
I always prefer hotels with coded key card security.
I checked into a Platinum room at RM155 nett.
Pushed open the heavy door and I was greeted by this King sized bed.
It's a King Koil, of course.
At 8 Days Boutique Hotel, a good night's rest is the number 1 priority, so no expense is spared on the best beds.
The room is actually quite spacious.
I like it that 8 Days Boutique Hotel provides a good size safe for our valuables. My precious constant companion, hardworking 15-inch laptop can fit in the safe easily.
The rubber slippers are a nice thought too. I dislike walking barefooted in hotel rooms.
The study desk, basic drinks station, fridge and large LCD TV set. The good sized fridge is empty, so we can stock it with our favourite drinks and cold snacks.
There's a jacuzzi tub with massage jets in the attached bathe room...
woohooo....!!

Pardon me for showing you the toilet seat, but I want to show you the clean towels and the basic personal care toiletries provided i.e. toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, shower cap etc.
Dropping my bags in the room, I took a quick walk around the hotel.
There were complimentary internet access for guests. I didn't use these as I brought my own lap top and used their free wifi.
There is a simple basic cafe on the ground level, if you like the convenience of dining staying in.
If you step outside, there are many dining options around the Permas Jaya area from fine dining to coffee shops to street hawkers.
The shopping mall is literally just steps away. Not in the league for all day heavy duty luxury shopping but all manner of daily necessities can be conveniently bought here.
There are interesting dining options in the large covered courtyard area right behind 8 Days Hotel.
The courtyard is great for just chilling out over cakes and coffee and one of my favourite cafes here is The Sugar Pantry.
A security guard watches the car park in front of 8 Days Hotel around the clock.
A few shoplots away along the same row of shops is the Permas Jaya police station.

Taman Impian Emas
I stayed a night at 8 Days Boutique Hotel in Taman Impian Emas during one of my 2 days 1 night food trails in Johor.
This is the facade of the 2 storey, 30+ rooms boutique hotel. Free parking is available at the front and the hotel security guard at the front entrance keep an eye on the guests' cars round the clock.
The hotel reception, right at the entrance. The reception is manned 24/7.
The hotel lobby is clean, bright and spacious with comfortable plush seats. A public access computer with internet connection is available at the lobby.
The hotel has two levels. Access to the second floor rooms is via lift and security key card. This is the only 2 storey hotel in Johor Bahru equipped with lift and key card access for better security.
The corridor at the second level. Brightly lit and with over head security CCTV cameras. The floor is carpeted to keep footstep noise down.
I stayed a night at a Platinum Jacuzzi with King Size Jacuzzi room (RM188 nett per room night promo rate).
The room is spacious with ample room to move about. It had none of the claustrophobic feel of many boutique hotels.
If I were brought into the room blindfolded, I wouldn't have guessed that this was a shop lot, boutique hotel.

The King size King Koil brand mattress was firm and comfortable. The pillows and linen were clean and free of smells. I slept well on it. I also like that cushioned head board.
All the essential amenities like LCD television, electric kettle, mini fridge and basic furniture are provided.
Free wifi is provided. I wrote and published a blog post from this room without a hitch during my stay.
Basic complimentary mineral water, instant coffee and tea bags. The room is equipped with universal power sockets, which are very convenient.
The mini fridge is empty, so we can stock it up with our own drinks and food.
There is a wardrobe and a safe box with digital lock.
There is a King size jacuzzi bathtub in the bath room.
I love the rain shower head - it's so refreshing to wash under a cascade of water.
Clean bath towels.
The wash basin and mirror. Basic toiletries like toothbrush, toothpaste, etc are provided.
I am glad 8 Days Boutique Hotel provided two pairs of rubber slippers for guests, as I dislike walking barefoot in hotel rooms.
