What can you do when you are hungry in the middle of Orchard Road, want something simple, quick, tasty and doesn't burn a hole in your pocket? I suggest going for this $10++ plate of seafood hor fun at Dining Place in Mandarin Gallery level 4. It's as good as seafood hor fun comes in Singapore.
When you come to Dining Place and saw the nice decor and comfortable chairs, you won't believe that you can get a $10++ seafood hor fun here 😄
You will be greeted by friendly staff who are earnest and eager to please you. Makes you wonder if you came to the right place for a simple, affordable quick bite.
For $10++, you get a large plate of freshly fried seafood hor fun enough for two small eaters and a lot for one person.
The mound of fried hor fun rice noodles is smothered by a thick smooth gooey yellowish white sauce made with stock, eggs and juices from the fish, prawns, squid, clams and leafy vegetables in the plate. The savoury sweet eggy sauce tasted great!
They were quite generous with the fresh thick grouper slices, squid rings, prawns and clams.
Some places may have more "wok hei" but this is already well above average from my experience. I can smell and taste the lovely toastiness on the well seared noodles and the savoury flavour of the caramelised sauces sealed into the rice noodles by high heat.
Disclosure: I had this seafood hor fun during an invited tasting but this is now at the top of the mind if I am hungry at Orchard Road. $10++ 搞掂 gao dim (settles). Don't need to think too much 😄
