Ah Tan Wings Har Cheong Gai Chicken Wings @ Yishun Park Hawker Centre

Ah Tan Wings Har Cheong Gai Chicken Wings @ Yishun Park Hawker Centre

Ah Tan Har Cheong Gai Crispy Chicken Wings is extremely popular in Singapore. I stumbled upon the stall at Yishun Park Hawker Centre, a couple of days ago. Having heard so much about the famous crispy chicken wings, naturally we ordered some to try.

Ah Tan Har Cheong Gai is one of the hawker stalls at the still spanking new Yishun Park Hawker Centre in Singapore.

The battered chicken wings were deep fried till dark golden brown - more brown than golden.

The chicken wing mid joint was equally as long as my forefinger but broader. It was a small size chicken wing.

The batter was light and very crisp. Clusters of crumbly bits hung feebly on the fried battered wing. The crumbly bits of batter fell off with every bite I took. The batter was just slightly greasy.

The crispy batter had a very robust salty savoury taste. The taste of fermented prawn paste was pronounced and whiffs of fermented prawn aroma went up my nose.

The robust salty savoury fermented prawn taste was rather flat and it overwhelmed any flavour there was in the skin and moist meat of the chicken wing. The whole chicken wing tasted only of fermented prawn paste based marinade.

  1. Tried this stall a few months ago. Wasn't impressed. Too salty and rather oily, so everything tasted the same after 1 wing and was quite jelat. I had wings + chicken cutlet. While the wings were freshly fried, the cutlet had been sitting on the counter for a while as it was not as hot or crispy. Disappointing. Overall, does not live up to the hype.
