True blue Kluangite, Sarah brought us to MG 83 Cafe 糖水美食馆, one of her favourite local delights hangouts in downtown Kluang.
MG 83 Cafe is a typical Malaysian style, simple eatery. It is simply furnished but clean and comfortable with air conditioning.
Sarah started us off with curry mee, mee hoon kueh and fish ball soup. They were all good, above average. The curry flavours were robust. The springy mee hoon kueh dough were hand kneaded and hand torn. The fish balls were hand made with fresh fish. Everything was faithful to tradition and taste good.
When this pale looking "yellow rice wine chicken mee sua" arrived on our table, we were already quite full from all the eating before.
One sip of this uninteresting looking soup and we all sat up in full attention. The thick, full bodied soup has the most robust and well balanced savoury sweet tangy (ginger) spicy flavours that I have tasted in a "rice wine chicken soup".
The chunks of fresh chicken were tender and juicy with natural sweetness.
The heavy gauge mee sua (rice noodles) had really nice tender firmness to the bite.
I like everything that I tried today and the most memorable was the rice wine chicken mee sua which I would specially go back to MG 83 Cafe for.
