Was in Lucky Plaza to run errands. Got reminded again that Lucky Plaza (and also nearby Far East Plaza) is full of affordable food gems in Singapore's tourist shopping core.
So many choices here, I opted for Lucky Chicken Rice this time. Kaki kaki Andrew recommended this. There was a lunch time queue but I got my seat pretty quickly (about 15 minutes wait).
They have various cuts and portions of poached and fried chicken (often referred to as steamed and roasted ). They also have hor fun and porridge / congee to go with the chicken.
The kitchen and front office were very well drilled.
Things moved very quickly once I was seated.
My order of lower quarter was on my table within 10 minutes despite the lunch crowd. This set cost SGD$9.50 which is very competitive pricing compared even with suburban coffeeshops.
Chicken was served boneless and dressed in a savoury salty sauce and oil blend. A lot of meat for a quarter bird.
Skin was smooth and soft, meat was just right tender but there was no aspic (jellied fat). Overall, it was moist but not juicy, if that is what you like.
Not much, if any chicken taste (good if you prefer not to have it).
Rice was a mix of whole and broken grains. Very lightly greased. Very slight savoury chicken flavour with rice sweetness. Taste was alright.
I like it that Lucky serves a good thick sweetened dark soy sauce to eat with the rice.
Nice lightly spicy ginger sauce with chicken stock.
Good spicy tangy savoury chili sauce.
Came with a flavourful savoury sweet soup.
A comfortable, affordable place to get a nice chicken rice meal in the heart of Singapore's shopping belt.
I rate Lucky Chicken Rice 6.5/10 on the Johor Kaki Chicken Rice Rating scale.
