Nasi Dagang De Selera Pantai Timur • Larkin Sentral Bus Station • East Coast Flavours

Nasi dagang is a peninsula Malaysia east coast staple more commonly found in the states of Terengganu and Kelantan. It's one of my favourite dishes whenever I have an opportunity to visit these beautiful east coast states.

So glad to see De Selera Pantai Timur stall at the third level food court / hawker centre at Larkin Sentral bus Interchange.

They have nasi kerabu, nasi dagang and laksam - all east coast signatures I love.

They have a good range of sides and toppings to go with the rice dishes.

My plate greedily heaped with steamed glutinous rice smothered with achar, ulam, gulai ikan tongkol, solok lada, kerisik, sambal and keropok. So much goodies for RM9.

The sticky nutty glutinous rice had a light greasy sheen, slight coconut milk fragrance and taste, and trace of aromatics. The sticky rice did not clump together as the grains were separated by a thin film of coconut milk grease.

They allow customers to pick their specific pieces of fish or chicken. I picked a small piece of fish as I had three places in mind to visit today 🫢

The gulai or curry was thick, lemak, sweet, moderately spiced and its spice and sweet flavours were well balanced.

The ikan tongkol fish (mackerel tuna) was fresh, meaty, a little firm but naturally sweet with its own distinct flavour. Ikan tongkol is the fish traditionally paired with nasi dagang.

Solok lada is a large green chili pepper generously stuffed with a filling of fish paste and shredded coconut pulp, and boiled. Very gently spicy, mostly sweet savoury.

The kerisik, achar, sambal, and ulam all added to the colours, textures, flavours and enjoyment of the delicious staple. I love it.

So much joy, I kaypoh kaypoh see how other people were enjoying their nasi dagang.

Next time, I want to try De Selera Pantai Timur's nasi kerabu and laksam.

The hawker centre at Larkin Sentral is full of affordable heritage food gems worth checking out. I will be back as there are so many more dishes to try!
