Kaki kaki Rayner alerted me to Fu Xiang Chicken Rice 福翔鸡饭 in Toa Payoh Central, it's one of his favourite chicken rice stalls. Today, passing by 来都来了 (since already here) so gave it a try 😁
Fu Xiang was very busy during lunch but taking orders, chopping, assembling the order, were all very efficient and quick. Problem was finding a seat in the coffeeshop 🫢
Like most chicken rice places now in Singapore and Malaysia, fried chicken is more popular at Yu Xiang.
But, I was here for the poached chicken. This was the lower quarter set for SGD$11.
Lots of meat with skin and bones, served splashed with a light brownish savoury aromatic sauce.
Cooked to the doneness I like. A bit of pink in the bone, none in the meat. Perfect 👌
Very nice. I love it.
Nice nutty texture from the rice, not too greasy, aromatic and flavoursome grains, but the proportion of broken grains was relatively high.
Very tasty and aromatic rice.
Big bowl of savoury chicken soup. It was alright.
They only have chili sauce and dark soy sauce. No ginger relish and staff said there was already ginger in the chili sauce. Anyway, the chili sauce was alright spicy savoury tangy.
The dark soy sauce was the thickened, sweetened type as it should be for Singapore chicken rice. Nice.
I like it. Made the flavourful rice even more tasty.
Another customer's fried chicken set. Looks delicious. Most people are at Yu Xiang for their fried chicken.
I rate Fu Xiang Chicken Rice 福翔鸡饭's poached chicken 7/10 on the Johor Kaki Chicken Rice Rating scale.
Note: If you noticed a reddish tint in my photos here, it's because I was sitting under a red canvas shade. No choice, the coffeeshop was full house and that was only the table available then.
