Tuck Kee is located along Jalan Yau Tet Shin at Taman Jubilee, right at the heart of Ipoh where there are many famous restaurants.

The more than half century old eatery founded in 1963 has a laid back rustic feel. 1960s vintage mosaic floor, floor to ceiling ceramic tiles, large wooden round tables with tabletops worn to bare wood, wobbly whirling ceiling fans, naked long fluorescent tubes, stacks of plastic chairs, perfunctory service (not rude, not warm) - yeah, this is home.

(Note: There are at least 3 restaurants in Ipoh with the same name - this is the original one. There is a Sun Tuck Kee 新德记 two shop lots away which I have not tried yet.)

We were equally at home outside with most of the locals. It's open, breezy and we can soak in all the smells, dazzling lights, and sounds of the lively street.

Tuck Kee was the 7th or 8th stop of our whole day, dawn till midnight Ipoh food trail. We just ordered some signature dishes to taste.

The iconic Yu Kong Hor "moonlight hor fun" 月光河粉 - stir fried rice ribbon noodles in dark soy sauce with pork, prawn, lard, greens etc topped with a raw egg. I like the deep dark hue on the noodles and aroma of caramelised sauces. Nice savoury sweet flavours with the raw egg providing the extra silky smoothness and a subtle eggy taste to the mainly savoury dish. Not much toasty wok hei though.

Wat Tan Hor Fun 滑蛋河粉 - the other must try at Tuck Kee. Savoury sweet, not much wok hei.

Ipoh Nga Choi 芽菜 - blanched bean sprouts bathed in a light savoury sauce. We came here right after Cowan Tauge Chicken and haven't gotten over the marvellous nga choi over there when we had this average one in Tuck Kee 😛

Information for you 👉 Truth be told, the noodles though tasty weren't very memorable. I've checked in here at this food junction on every Ipoh trip for decades. Will still do so for future trips and tuck in at Tuck Kee, because a visit to Ipoh is not complete without a stop here. I'll stick to a small serving of obligatory moonlight hor fun 月光河 (and, perhaps blanched baby octopus in soy sauce which I heard is very good). I will also visit Sun Tuck Kee next.
