Uncle Bob has been raving about the roti prata stall at Warung Jalan Lembing in Taman Sri Tebrau. This roti prata stall has also popped up regularly on my social media feeds. I finally made it here today. Yay ๐Ÿ˜„

Warung Jalan Lembing is a makeshift shack type of eatery next to the field and playground at Taman Sri Tebrau.

The warung was full house this Sunday morning (9:30am). We had to wait about 15 minutes for a table.

Stall holder Encik Tahir has been selling roti prata for over 25 years with 18 years here at Warung Jalan Lembing.

Encik Tahir doesn't flip his prata very wide nor very thin.

The roti kneaded with Planta margarine inside is fried with lots of vegetable oil on a sizzling flat cast iron griddle.

Encik Tahir fries his roti prata till they are well browned with patches of char outside. (If you like your roti with even more char, just say "extra garing" when you order.)

The roti was relatively thick and heavy - not the thin and flaky type. It felt crisp and chewy with a slight stiffness to the bite. It tasted mildly savoury with a subtle bit of wheat sweetness. It had the aroma of oil and toasty wheat. I like it.

Another customer's roti telur (below) and roti bom (above). I couldn't resist ordering a roti bom myself.

Roti bom is really the cholesterol and sugar bomb. Encik Tahir cautioned that we should have this only once a month ๐Ÿ˜„

Extra Planta margarine and spoonfuls of sugar were spread inside the folds before the roti was fried with sizzling oil. The roti bom was very sweet with strong buttery smell and taste. The folds were soaking with grease. The well browned and charred outside of the roti was crisp and tasted toasty.

Indulge in this but do take Encik Tahir's advice ๐Ÿ˜œ

The dhal at Warung Jalan Lembing was thick like a sauce. The spice flavour was relatively strong as was the spicy kick.

A little boy at the next table was getting initiated into eating roti prata with sugar. How did you get your first taste of roti prata? Was it with sugar or straight into spicy curry / dhal?

I jumped straight into curry at the prata shop along Bras Brasah Road in 1960s Singapore. Unforgettable flavour, aroma and texture.

I asked this question on my Facebook and was surprised that so many had their first roti prata with sugar.

Information for you ๐Ÿ‘‰ Nice prata if you like your roti crispy, chewy and quite greasy. The dhal is thick and has relatively assertive spiciness and flavours. I like the warung ambiance which adds to the authentic local street food experience.
