The Nam Heong kiosk is right outside the Lotus supermarket at level 1, so it is very easy to find.
Nam Heong egg tarts are made right there at the kiosk.
Nam Heong egg tarts are freshly baked on site.
They come out piping hot in about 30 minutes 🕒
Nan Heong egg tarts go at RM3.70 each (2023 price).
RM20 for a box of six, which works out to RM3.33 or 95 cents (S$) per egg tart.
Okay.... They are good value but how do they taste?
The crisp flaky cup is the layered puff pastry type.
The custard is simply mostly fresh egg and probably a bit of syrup and milk. The custard does not have any blotches of char or browning on top which many people like. For Nam Heong egg tarts, they instead aim for their signature clean yellow mirror finish on top.
In fact, before baking, the pastry chef will carefully inspect every egg tart and remove anything that might detract from the desired cheery yellow finish.
Nam Heong egg tart is right sized - not too big. The egg custard is smooth and like firm jelly (neither jiggly nor stiff). Just the right sweetness for me. Subtly eggy (I wish egginess was more pronounced).
One more thing to enjoy in JB or bring back home for family and friends.

Nam Heong Egg Tarts at Mid Valley Mall
✍ 12 Sep 2019. Now you can get freshly baked famous Nam Heong egg tarts at the NH outlet in Mid Valley Mall in Southkey, Johor Bahru.
Having enjoyed the egg tarts at the original vintage Nam Heong coffee shop in Ipoh, I am glad that they are now opened in JB as well. Besides the egg tarts, there are Ipoh gai si hor fun, chee cheong fun and of course, Ipoh white coffee which are must try dishes.
On this hot and hazy September afternoon, chilling out with iced Ipoh white coffee and Ipoh pastries at Nam Heong Mid Valley Southkey is the perfect escape (even if it is only for a while).
I like this tart's golden cup because it is thick and deep. Thick yet light and airy. Deep because, then it can hold more egg custard mah.... duh... .
I like it that Nam Heong's egg tarts (price RM3.30) have so much eggy sweet soft custard held in a light, flaky, buttery, crumble-in-your-mouth cup.
Can also try their char siew sou (price RM3.80) if you like - it's not bad too. Flaky, buttery crumbly crust with generous amount of savoury sweet char siew inside.
