October Japanese Cuisine JP Perdana Budget a la Carte Buffet in Johor Bahru

Scrolling through the posts in 吃的平台 Facebook group, we saw a member shared about the a la carte buffet at October Japanese Cuisine in JP Perdana, Johor Bahru. So, we went there for dinner today.



The stretch of restaurants at JP Perdana was once a dining hotspot in Johor Bahru. It has quietened down a lot, the crowd drawn to the nearby Mount Austin area (3 minutes drive away). October Japanese Cuisine is one of 4 or 5 restaurants still operating here in JP Perdana.




Inside, October Japanese Cuisine is quite well appointed. It has taken over the premises of the former Kinya Japanese House which was a fine dining Japanese restaurant.



The a la carte buffet pricing is very competitive - RM59 (adults), RM49 (seniors age 55 & above), and RM39 (child age 12 & below). All prices are nett (i.e. GST and service charge included already).



Ordering is simple. Just write the number of servings you want against the over 50 dishes listed on the slip. Each pax is limited to 3 servings of each dish. It's fine with us, as even if we order just 1 serving per dish, it's already more than enough food for us. (I believe the rule is to prevent customers from ordering say, unlimited servings of sashimi and such.)



We went three rounds of orders. The staff were young but earnest, enthusiastic, friendly and helpful 👏👏👏 Our orders were taken promptly and cheerfully. The restaurant was about half full when we were there but our orders were delivered pretty quickly (5 or 10 minutes).

Two of us, we had a total of 58 servings before we stopped 😝 Lepak (chilled) here for 2 hours. 



Overall, the food ingredients and execution were average quality. This is not the place for fine or exquisite Japanese dining. We like the tempura. Sashimi was sufficiently fresh. Some dishes like the pork sukiyaki was a bit too sweet for us. The yaki sobu was a little too salty. The sushi and hand rolls were about the same standard as those at department store delicatessens which are not good bad. The factory made goma (sesame seed) ice cream tastes good. Free flow of green tea is included. We had a lot of food for RM49 each and cannot complain really. (The manager / cashier charged us seniors rate without verifying our age 🤭 We got look so old meh? 😂 )

Current pricing is more than fair. If the food was twice as good, we would gladly pay twice as much for it 😄
