Johor Kaki friends suggested that I pay a visit to JJ Sarawak Noodle in Jurong West Blk 504 for their authentic kolo mee ๐Ÿ˜‹

This was my first time in this part of Singapore and was quite thrilled by the wide range of enticing food stalls here.

JJ Sarawak Noodle is a food stall inside JW 504 F&B coffee shop in block 504 of Hong Kah Point. It is beside Jurong West 505 Market & Food Centre. The area is a buzzing hive of activity even under COVID-19 Circuit Breaker (social distancing) conditions.

There was no queue, JJ Sarawak Noodle looks still under the radar.

Everything here for $7.50 altogether. Kolo mee $3.50, Sarawak laksa $4.00.

The Sarawak laksa looked the part, fiery red colour chili oil on top, shelled prawns and all.

The curry was thick and creamy with coconut milk and the spices were rather assertive though not spicy hot. The taste profile was a bit hard to describe but buay gum (not suit) me. I encourage you to give it a try and taste it for yourself, see if it gum or buay gum you. Let us know in the comments ๐Ÿ˜Š

The kolo mee come blanketed under char siew slices, minced pork, crispy fried wanton and chopped spring onion.

Under all the toppings was just a small clutch of curly noodles and light coloured aromatic sauce.

Oh.. I like this.

The curly noodles, quite thick were tenderly chewy with a slight spring to the bite.

JJ is generous with the sauce. Every curly strand was well coated with the sauce and there was some spare pooling at the bottom of the bowl.

The sauce was savoury, layers of it with lard, aromatic oil and a salty soy sauce. Nice! (May be a shade too salty for some but just nice for me.)

The delicious sauce reminded me of Tow Kee Hakka mee in Seremban, Malaysia. Every time I drive by, passing Seremban on the highway between Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru, I will have this mental struggle whether I should pull into Seremban to get my Tow Kee fix. That's how much I love Tow Kee's Hakka mee. Well JJ Sarawak Noodle's kolo mee gives me a reasonable substitute when I can't go to Seremban.

The savoury minced pork, savoury sweet char siew slices and crispy savoury wanton all add textures and flavours to the tasty noodles.

Oh yeah...., nearly forgot. This crispy crunchy lard saturated crackling added to the pleasure of this kolo mee too.

Pro-tip: Go for the $4 serving. You won't have enough of the flavours and crunchy noodles ๐Ÿ˜„
