Cheng Heng Kway Chap & Braised Duck is an institution here at Holland Drive Food Centre. Stalking the popular hawker centre for breakfast, the tables around Cheng Heng were occupied by their uncle-auntie type fans. I just got pulled in unconsciously, like old birds of a feather.... 😅

Stall name: Cheng Heng Kway Chap & Braised Duck Rice

Address: 44 Holland Drive, stall #02-05, Singapore 270044 (Holland Drive Food Drive)

Nearest MRT: 5 minutes walk from Buona Vista station

Hours: 7:30am - 2:30pm (Thurs off)

The queue was short and moved along slowly in a laid back, relaxed way. The two friendly aunties running Cheng Heng,
wearing matching floral blouses, were very patient, suggesting things I may like to try.

I asked for duck breast and kway (rice sheets) and added stewed intestine on auntie's suggestion. They also have pork belly, large intestine, pig skin, taupok, eggs, fish cake, etc, but I abstained as I had a lunch appointment next.

This set for $5.50. Some people have commented that this stall is pricey. It is true that we can get a slightly larger portion for the same price at some other places but I still feel this is good value for money, especially in these days.

The duck breast (my favourite cut of duck) was nicely sliced in thin slices 👍

The slices were soft and turned almost into mush with slight chewing effort, as if tailor-made for weak teeth oldies 🤣 I am young enough to still prefer a bit of chew in my duck 😛 The flavour was mainly from the light, unthickened, slightly savoury braising stock. If there were herbs or five spice, I couldn't detect it. Overall, I like this duck breast.

The pork intestine was good! The inside was soft but there was a subtle crunch on the outside. It tasted savoury with a bit of porcine sweetness and a hint of bitterness (in a good way). Together, it made an interesting blend of flavours in the mouth.

I always opt for the kway (rice sheet), if the stall sells both kway chap and braised duck. The stock here is good! Savoury from the braising stock, sweet from the kway, and an overlay of umami from fried shallot. Delicious.

The kway was smooth and too soft (I mean I can't pick it with chopsticks to take a nice picture 😜). But, it tasted good 😋

I didn't take a picture of the chili sauce. It tasted sharp spicy, sourish from vinegar and savoury-salty. Nice though, as usual I don't use chili dip much nowadays.

Oei! Uncle! Why you waste people chili? 😅 🙇‍♂️

Bumped into another uncle who knows how to appreciate Cheng Heng's chili sauce much more than me 😁

🎗 Note to self: Beo-ing Observing other people's orders, I noticed that many people ordered their kiam chye (salted vegetable). Shall try that next time.
