In between meals during our dawn till night JB food trail, we needed a coffee stop to cool our heels. Yeah, the weather was blistering hot this couple of weeks.
We circled around the still new Austin Crest F & B precinct at Bandar Putra Jaya (north of Mount Austin) and settled for Kenjo Bakery. (I came here before a few months ago.)
In the zone between Mount Austin and Taman Setia Indah, we were spoilt for choice as lots of coffee shops, cafes, tea shops, noodle shops, and restaurants have sprouted up like mushrooms in the morning on a hillside.
This was my second time at Kenjo. Wanted to know the place better before recommending it to you.
It's an understated place - I mean the decor was relatively simple and doesn't have pretentious, kitschy made-for-social-media props all over.
I feel more "at home" and comfortable at minimalist decor, toned down places like here. In a world of pretences and props, authenticity feels calming, peaceful, attractive.
There's a bakery section at the front.
Kenjo touts itself as a Taiwan-Japan inspired bakery using flour and other key ingredients imported from Taiwan and Japan.
The cafe section further inside. The space was bright, and the simple furnishings were well spaced out. The colours were light, giving the whole space a welcoming, relaxing feel.
They had a big rectangular table that sat eight of us comfortably.
Barista Tan, an earnest young man brewed some nice coffee for us.
We also got some cakes to go with our coffees. Actually, we just wanted a place to cool down between meals but couldn't resist the beautiful cakes and breads. In other words, we are weak or greedy or both 🤭
I like it that the breads and cakes are freshly baked in-house. The dough is also made from scratch with flour at the bakery / cafe.
We indulged in a few different flavours of burnt cheesecakes. Nice, though personally I prefer my cheesecakes more moist, slightly less dense and have slightly more tangy taste.
Love this spongy sweet moist creamy Swiss roll.
Fleur de Sel Butter Rolls.
Had the Fleur de Sel butter roll during my previous visit. It's Kenjo's signature and best seller.
Soft spongy inside with a subtle crisp chewiness outside. Buttery savoury sweet. It's perfect with bitter, sweet coffee, I feel.
Red Bean Butter Baguette.
I like this warm toasted bread filled with boiled red bean and butter.
It's got everything I like - chewy toasted bread, not overly sweet boiled red beans and a slice of butter.
Pair it with a nice bitter sweet coffee and good company, a good friend, a good book or just myself and my own thoughts - that's bliss for me, already.
