When I wrote a blog post in 2013 about how not to be sold a fake mao shan wang, I said I would follow up with a list of honest durian sellers.

Today, I am finally able to keep my promise 😄

Mr Liew has been a fruit seller for over 20 years. His customers know him as 胡须佬 "the bearded guy" or "janggut". 胡须佬 has many regulars like Mdm Wong who runs the famous Tampoi laksa stall.

During the durian off season, 胡须佬 sells local fruits like pineapple and guava.

During the durian season, 胡须佬 focuses on durians, of course. Every morning, 胡须佬 drives his car to Segamat to buy his durians. He sets off from JB at 4:00am and arrives in Segamat at 6:00am. He will be back in JB by 10:00am and his hand picked mao shan wang will often be sold out within 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Car load of fresh mao shan wang durians 猫山王 dropped from the trees just the night before.

If you are eyeing 胡须佬's mao shan wang, you have to call +6016 782 3037 and reserve.

Currently, 胡须佬 sells mao shan wang 猫山王 at RM58 per kilo. Other cultivars at various prices per kilo. It's only one car load of durians every day, so 胡须佬's supply is really, really limited. Always call before coming to avoid a wasted trip.

Customers take home their durians in sacks or in plastic boxes. They can also eat it, right there at the coffee shop with their coffee.

胡须佬 sells durians from the boot of his car, parked along Jalan Kilang Nenas which is near Lee's Pineapple Factory and Taika Huat braised duck stall 八里半大家发鸭肉.

🙏 Please share with me your favourite durian seller and highlight more honest durian sellers. Thank you.

I firmly believe that taste is subjective and so, warmly welcome differing viewpoints :-D But, I disapprove negative comments that are anonymous or hide behind fake identities. I feel that that is the same as speaking ill of others behind their backs. I look forward to all your comments :-D Thank you. (Date: 18 Dec 2015)
