The Louisiana seafood boil food fad has arrived in Johor Bahru with the newly opened The Catch Restaurant 手抓吧 in Taman Sentosa. Since The Catch opened on 14 Jul 2016, it has been full house every night.
The Catch Restaurant is in a corner house along Jalan Sutera (near Plaza Sentosa).
JB folks love seafood and parties - so sharing a heap of seafood and enjoying the company of family and friends works well in Johor Bahru. (This picture was taken at 4:30pm on a Sunday.)
Here's the menu for the seafood boil - there are sets for two (RM138+) to sets for ten people (RM788+).
Besides the sets, customers can add more seafood at additional cost.
There's lots of seafood like oysters, crabs, clams and these Maine lobsters.
Our set for two people.
The seafood were fresh and cooked in a thick savoury sweet sauce (like sweet chili crab sauce). The sauce though flavourful was mild enough for us to taste the fresh seafood's natural sweetness. Seafood like prawns and crabs protected by shells from over cooking were particularly good. The meat was juicy and sweet. On the other hand, seafood like squid were a little overdone and quite stiff. As most of the heap consisted of crabs, prawns and clams, we enjoyed our set.
👉 The Catch Restaurant is a brand new operation. While the staff are earnest, they are coping with huge crowds and refining the processes at the same time. The Catch Restaurant aims to be more than a seafood boil place - it will be rolling out BBQ, steamboat, 7 tier seafood steaming tower and cold seafood bucket etc one by one in stages.
Disclosure: Please note that this was an invited tasting.
