Tried out the sang har mee 生蝦麵 at the newly opened CF Fish Head Restoran 创发生蝦鱼头米 near KSL Mall in Taman Century. We love it 😋
The restaurant was just opened the day before - we were the first customers to walk in today. The decor is simple and neat. Nice, clean and very comfortable.
There were fish head, fish maw, fish paste and prawn dishes in the menu. We opted for this sang har mee 生蝦麵 (RM32.80 for two pax serving) at the restaurant manager's suggestion. This dish is known as 生虾炸生麵 in CF's menu.
I fell in love with sang har mee while living in KL nearly 20 years ago where it is a popular dish. It's a dish seldom seen in JB or Singapore. CF Fish Head Noodle is a branch from it's parent shop in Subang Jaya, near Kuala Lumpur. I am glad that CF Fish Head brought sang har mee here and was eager to try it.
A mound of golden yellow fried egg noodles was set on a large plate like a wiry bird's nest.
Two large prawns halved and fried were set on the crispy nest of fried egg noodles.
The prawns and noodles were splashed with a sauce make of real chicken stock sweetened with turnips and sugar cane. No MSG is used. The gooey sauce tasted sweet, balanced with egginess from the egg beaten into the sauce. The sauce was mild tasting and mainly sweet. We like the texture of the fried noodles and it was not greasy.
The prawn were good sized (but not like the huge ones in KL which would cost 3 - 4 times more). The prawns were halved, lightly battered and fried.
The meaty prawns still have a lively bounce and have the sweet taste of fresh prawns 鲜虾味. (These were flash frozen river prawns.)
Nowadays, I don't eat the tasty stuff in the prawn head. The orange hued "paste" in the head which is often referred to as the roe is actually gut such as the digestive track, liver, pancreas, gills and nervous system. The prawn's roe is carried externally between the female's legs, not inside the head.
We also ordered the house made fried tofu 炸豆腐 (RM12) for sides.
Good as a side, the fried tofu is made with a blend of minced pork, chopped leek, minced fish and bean curd.
👍 We are happy that CF Fish Head 创发生蝦鱼头米 brought their style of sang har meen 生蝦麵 to JB as it is one of my favourite Malaysian dishes.

This restaurant is now closed. Probably deemed overpriced compared to the surrounding food shops.
