This was my first time flying with Firefly airlines and it was a also very long time since I last flew in a turboprop aircraft. I enjoyed both my smooth and comfortable 1.5 hour flights between Singapore and Subang Skypark Airport near Kuala Lumpur.
We arrived in Subang Skypark Airport to the welcome of a shower of blessings (light drizzle 😃 ) and warmly greeted by bare footed Mah Meri tribe folk dancers. I think the drizzle is a blessing especially for them as otherwise the tarmac will be scorching on a typical sizzling Malaysian day 😊
Couldn't resist grabbing a selfie with the Mah Meri dancers. (Note to self: Find out more about the Mah Meri tribe and their food culture.)
We were celebrating the launch of Tourism Selangor's "Discover Selangor, Heart of Malaysia" campaign and the collaboration between Tourism Selangor and Firefly airlines. A Firefly ATR 72 aircraft was beautifully dressed in colourful livery highlighting the many interesting things that the Malaysian state of Selangor has to offer travellers and tourists.
YB Elizabeth Wong, Chairman Standing Committee of Tourism, Green Technology, Consumer Affairs & Environment of Selangor addressed the gathering of guests from travel, media and aviation industries on the launch of "Discover Selangor, Heart of Malaysia" campaign.
We also witnessed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between Firefly and Tourism Selangor to further boost tourist arrivals to Selangor from both domestic and international visitors, especially from ASEAN countries.
Firefly CEO Ignatius Ong represented the airline and the signing ceremony was witnessed by GM of Tourism Selangor, Puan Noorul Ashikin Mohd Din.
Mr. Ignatius Ong said “Being a 100% Malaysian airline, we are truly proud to have the beautiful colours of the nation on our aircraft".
Tagging "Heart of Malaysia" to the existing "Discover Selangor" tagline captures the true essence of Selangor, added Puan Noorul Ashikin Mohd Din.
YB Elizabeth Wong hopes that the collaboration between Firefly and Tourism Selangor will lead to the Malaysian state clinching the best destination in the ASEAN region honour at the upcoming ASEAN Tourism Forum 2018 to be hosted by Malaysia.
After the simple but meaningful ceremony, Tourism Selangor hosted invited media to an enjoyable 4 days and 3 nights of eating, shopping, culture, heritage, homestay, eco and nature activities to sample a little of the many interesting experiences the state of Selangor can offer.
Firefly is Beyond Convenience.
Next time I wish to get to a Malaysian destination, I would also consider Firefly. As in the case of Kuala Lumpur, Subang Skypark Airport is conveniently at the suburban fringe of the Malaysian capital city.
While the Firefly ATR 72 cabin is smaller than wide body jet liners, the seats are just as plush and leg room equally comfortable. Firefly cabin crew are friendly and professional. Passengers are served courtesy drinks (we had mango juice and soya bean milk) and light snacks for the short flight. Both our flights were on schedule and comfortable (no air turbulence bumps despite the rainy weather). Fares are very competitive (and includes 20kg complimentary check in luggage 👏👏👏 ) "Lidat win already lor 这样, 赢了咯" as Singaporeans say..... .
An exciting, free and easy weekend of excellent food and good shopping from Singapore to Selangor (e.g. Subang, Shah Alam, Petaling Jaya, Kelana Jaya etc) and KL relying on Firefly and modern public transport like LRT and MRT is completely doable 😃
