E-Sarn Thai Cuisine Corner near Pasir Panjang MRT

Marcus suggested we go to E-Sarn Thai Cuisine in Pasir Panjang for lunch.

E-Sarn serves cuisine from the northeastern region of Thailand, known as Isaan or E-Sarn. Isaan is Thailand's largest region, consisting of 20 provinces. Many of Thailand's best-known dishes come from Isaan.

If you like robust flavours, Isaan food is for you.

We came here at 11:30am and Marcus also made a reservation. It is call "double confirm" ๐Ÿคญ

I am glad we did that as once the clock struck 12 ๐Ÿ•› , the little restaurant was suddenly full house and a queue formed outside ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

We naturally left the ordering to Marcus because Thailand is his second home ๐Ÿคญ

We started with Pamelo Salad $13++

The refreshing sweet zesty taste of juicy pamelo was complemented by savoury, tangy, spicy flavours from the dressing sauce. Fresh prawn, raw onion, roasted coconut, etc added more texture and flavours.

Sun Dried Pork $15++

Sun dried and deep fried. Quite chewy, a bit dry. The main flavour was savoury salty and a subtle bit of aromatics, for example from the kaffir lime leaves.

More like beer food.

Comes with E-Sarn style chili sauce which I didn't try ๐Ÿคญ I will try at the next visit ๐Ÿ™

More beer food.

Crispy Soft Shell Crab $12.50++

Crispy outside, soft moist under the light crackly batter. Savoury salty flavours with hints of spicy heat. Comes with a sweet chili sauce which I didn't use.

The crab itself was already quite addictive.

Cha Om Vegetable (Thai Acacia) Omelette $12++

This is a winner.

"Fleshy" moist greens chopped and enveloped in soft tender omelette. Blend of savoury and eggy with a bit of green sweet taste of cha om.

The cha om omelette is eaten with an amazing belacan chili type sauce but with a different taste profile from the Malaysian or Indonesian versions. Crustacean umami savoury saltiness was prominent with a trailing hot spiciness. Flavours were robust but I couldn't help myself from eating it neat by the spoonfuls.

Amazing, I mean this sauce.

Red Curry Prawns $17.50++

Fresh meaty shelled prawns and eggplant stewed in rich coconut milk loaded with herb, spice and aromatics. But, nothing sharp or biting. Sweet, spicy, tangy, savoury all together harmoniously.

Crabmeat Fried Rice $12++

A bit moist, a bit greasy but the soft tender rice was rich with flavour. Eggy, crab sweetness, rice sweetness, umami and savouriness from sauce. It was a delicious fried rice.

Our meal was delicious and going by what we had, the other dishes in the extensive menu should be worth trying as well . That means we need to come back ๐Ÿ˜„

It you have been to E-Sarn Thai Cuisine Corner, please share with us, the dishes you enjoy ๐Ÿ™
