Chinatown Complex was built in 1983 with a food centre on level 2. Most of the hundreds of street side hawker stalls that operated around Chinatown since the 1950s were moved into the food centre then. 226 stalls in all, making Chinatown Complex, Singapore's largest hawker centre - a record she still holds today. That was 37 years ago. The old Chinatown Complex remains the centre of authentic Singapore street food in Chinatown though I wonder how many of the original stalls are still here today.
Chinatown Complex is an old utilitarian building, designed with an eye for function but not beauty. It is like a maze inside with many blind corners, dead ends and hidden nooks. Looking for stalls in the sprawling labyrinth can be quite daunting, except for the regular visitor.
The food centre is divided into four colour zones - Red, Blue, Yellow and Green. To help myself explore Chinatown Complex, I am putting together here a 4 part directory of stalls according to their colour zones. I am starting with the Yellow Zone first because it is the smallest. (I was taught from young that you can tackle anything no matter how big by breaking it into parts.)

So, here we go, all the stalls in the Yellow Zone. Hopefully, this will help me in finding my way around Chinatown Complex and is useful to you too.
Kazan is a popular stall offering value for money Japanese themed dishes like salmon teriyaki, chicken teriyaki, katsu curry don, ebi curry don, unagi set etc.
