CLOSED. Baristas Coffee in Johor, Kulai

Baristas-Coffee-Johor-Kulai

At a time when trendy cafes try to outdo each other with slick and lavish interior decor that everyone wants to post on Instagram, Baristas Coffee in Kulai stays true to coffee fundamentals.

Everything at Baristas Coffee is simple, plain and basic. Unadulterated, unpretentious, like a mom and pop bed and breakfast.

But, this cafe is special in it's "ordinariness".

I like this place for it's rustic, welcoming small town charm.

Here at Baristas Coffee, we get specialty coffee from true coffee lovers and home made pastries from an experienced pastry chef.

The very down-to-earth owner-chef, Mr Foo was a pastry chef with Lazio (in Danga Bay), Canada 2 for 1 Pizza (JB), and had also worked in Coffee Bean (JB).

Mr Foo's experience in pastry and coffee come together very well when he opened his own cafe, Baristas Coffee five years ago in his hometown, Kulai.

Mr Foo is ably supported by his wife, Janey in running Baristas Coffee.

Baristas Coffee's house blend is made to specification by My Liberica (the only specialty coffee house in Malaysia and Singapore that is fully integrated from plantation to cup).

Baristas Coffee's house blend is a fusion of Johor Liberica and Robusta with Java Golden Mandheling Arabica.

My cuppa cappuccino (RM8 single shot).

Baristas Coffee's cappuccino has a strong espresso flavour with sweetish taste, and a rich velvety texture.

I like.

My mocha coffee (RM9 single shot). Strong coffee blended with milk and rich chocolate. The best of both worlds for coffee and chocolate lovers.

Who says you can't have everything?

Janey graciously made me a café brûlée.

The robust rich coffee was sweetened by the caramel top as the sugared layer cracked and melted into the cup below.

I enjoyed the novel and fun way to drink a good cuppa.

Baristas Coffee is one of the rare places in Johor that serves home made scones. Mr Foo personally makes the scones at the shop.

Buttery flavour and aroma, fluffy, and crumbly.

Lovely.

Home made egg fibre bagel with scrambled egg, lettuce and Thousand Island dressing.

I like this rich eggy bagel too.

Baristas Coffee's tom yam pan pizza.

The crust was made at the shop from scratch. The tomato, capsicum and shrimp toppings were market fresh as they were bought from the wet market.

The cheese topping was a blend of cheddar, mozzarella and Parmesan cheese for the best stretchiness, aroma and flavour.

I like this refreshing and light tasting pizza. I also like it that this pizza was not greasy as it was made with sunflower oil.
