Singapore the Culinary Olympics 2016 Champion - Celebration Party

These are Gold Medals brought home by Team Singapore from the Culinary Olympics 2016 held in Erfurt, Germany in Oct 2016.

Team Singapore has always done well in international competitions winning gold medals before at previous Culinary Olympics but this is the first time that Singapore is the overall Champion - the top scoring country. It's like being the country with the highest medal tally in the Summer Olympics.

I was privileged to attend the Celebration Party to honour all who contributed to Singapore's success at Culinary Olympics 2016.

Team Singapore 2016 is led by team manager Swissotel Merchant Court executive chef Louis Tay and captained by chef Teo Yeow Siang of Lavish Dine. Team members are chefs Triston Fang of Ocean Restaurant, Alan Wong of Lavish Dine, Roy Lim of Unilever Food Solutions, and pastry chef Alex Chong of Regent Singapore.

The team guided by team manager chef Louis Tay trained together for over a year on weekends as they all held full time jobs. Three are new dads. The chefs and their loved ones made huge sacrifices in family time together to attend the rigorous training sessions.

Singapore Chefs Association President, Chef Edmund Toh addressed the guests. Chef Edmund shared that many international counterparts and media were amazed how a small country like Singapore could be such a power in the culinary world.

Chef Edmund alluded to a "secret weapon" and it goes beyond special food ingredients or cooking techniques.

It is the proud tradition of the Singapore Chefs Association to support, advice and assist the Culinary Olympics team from start to finish with a group of dedicated chef mentors and coaches. The chef mentors and coaches are veterans with many victorious international campaigns under their belt.

It's a night to thank the sponsors without whose generosity it would not be possible to form the team and send them to Erfurt, Germany - an expensive endeavour costing over SGD250,000.
