It need not be anything exquisite or exclusive - just commonplace everyday things we take for granted which are hard to find once we are out of the country. As Johor Bahru is the home of a sizable and growing international community, this aching feeling is felt thousands of times a day or at night right across Iskandar.
Rajiv and partner whose professional careers took them across the world before coming to JB, personally felt this countless times. So, to satisfy their own cravings and those of their friends, Rajiv and partner were inspired to launch Gourmet Trails - Marketplace & Deli.
Gourmet Trails - Marketplace & Deli is just two months old and they are still trying to figure what the community wants. Taking a quick browse around the shelves, my hunch is that many of the things that you hoped for may not be there yet.
So, Gourmet Trails have a guest book where you can write down what you hope to see at the Marketplace & Deli, and they will try and source it for you.
Meanwhile, here's some of the things on the shelves today when I was there.
Oils like olive oil and olive oil with truffles.
Chips and snacks.
Boutique craft beers, cider etc
There are gluten free flour, condiments, frozen meats, fresh organic produce, homemade cakes, ice creams, yogurt etc.
There is a deli section serving cheeses, hams, sausages, smoked meats, cold cuts with paninis, foccacias etc.
We can enjoy simple, light meals from the deli at the breezy foyer just outside Gourmet Trails.
Today, we had Organic Quinoa Zuccini Burger (RM19.90+), Ham & Mozzarella Crostini (RM11.90+), Smoked Salmon Cream Cheese Crostini (RM14.90+), Bacon & Caramelized Onion Crostini (14.90+). Gourmet Trails is planning to serve pizzas and pastas soon.
Cappuccino (RM8.90+), Latte (RM8.90+), Mochacino (RM9.90+), Mocha (RM9.90+), Canadian Mountain Tea (RM5.90+).
👉 Gourmet Trails Marketplace & Deli is a great idea - to meet the aching need in JB's international community for comfort food and drinks from home. It's a humble start at the moment but with time and the support of the people it serves, Gourmet Trails has the potential be an essential stop for JB's ever on-the-move international community.
