Teluk Pulai Ba Kut Teh is another leading BKT shop in Klang - the capital of Malaysian bak kut teh.
Teluk Pulai Ba Kut Teh is a huge corner shop stretching across 3 units. It is always busy and packed, especially during lunch.
Like any top Klang bak kut teh restaurant, there are lots of cuts to choose from at Teluk Pulai.
There's even pig tails (which I must remember to order next time 😃 ).
The food is finished with high heat and served piping hot. Look at that heap of tendon 😱
The ka wan 脚弯 (cut from hind leg) is a cut popular with Klang folks. The cut today at Teluk Pulai is a little on the fat side with not much lean meat. But, I like it that it is savoury-sweet-herbal with natural sweetness from the fresh pork. The pork has just the right tenderness and juiciness.
Teluk Pulai's brownish savoury-sweet-herbal stock is medium bodied, thickened by melted collagen and starch. The stock's taste leans slightly more on the salty-savoury side.
(We can add bean curd sticks, tau pok, button mushroom, enoki mushrooms, lettuce etc etc but we just like our bak kut teh with pork and stock only 😃 )
At the staff's suggestion, we had a bowl of pork tendons. It is served with the same flavoursome savoury-sweet-herbal stock.
Tendons are mainly about texture - it is tender with a firm jelly-like spongy bounce. The tendon itself has little flavour - the dish's taste come mainly from simmering the tendons in savoury-sweet-herbal stock.
Teluk Pulai's "dry" bak kut teh is served bubbling, sizzling and puffing hot steam in a clay pot.
The pieces of pork are smothered in a thick wet caramelised sauce with robust savoury-spicy-sweet flavours from soy sauce-oyster sauce blend, dried chili and dried cuttlefish.
It's so.... delicious.
Our total bill for all these food came to RM42 (2017 price).
4-Star (out of 5). Teluk Pulai is one of the local favourites among the best of Klang bak kut teh. You may like this especially if you prefer more savouriness than sweetness or herbalness in your BKT.

ReplyDeleteThe T.Pulai BKT represent the flip side of the coin in the mixed Claypot vs traditional individual Bowl BKT debate.
DeleteCampur (rojak) verses pure meat flavour.
Mixed buffet of meat, veggie, tofu, whatnot verses a la carte flavour of choosen cut of meat.
