Lunch today was at Shanghai Dim Sum at Richmond Hill, Toronto. It's known as ๅ้ๅปๅฐๅ or City God Temple Eatery in Chinese, referring to the famous landmark in old Shanghai, China.
Shanghai Dim Sum is busy during lunch time. Customers have to wait for available tables and sometimes have to share tables with strangers. (Coming from Malaysian coffeeshop experience, table sharing is the norm for me ๐ )
We started with xiao long bao, the quintessential Shanghainese food icon.
The little purse made with thin flour dough wraps a tender knob of minced pork and fat suspended in a tongue scalding, savoury sweet broth.
These xioa long baos are excellent. Actually, in my humble opinion, better than those that I have tried at it's namesake ๅ้ๅป in Shanghai itself ๐ click
Deep Fried Chicken with Cumin is one of Shanghai Dim Sum's signature dishes - almost every table orders this dish.
The fried chicken was crispy outside while inside it was tender and juicy. The outside is savoury-spicy hot with chili pepper as well as cumin flavour and aroma. Inside, the juicy meat was savoury-sweet.
Taste it and it is easy to see why this dish is so popular.
Stir Fried Beef with Tangerine Peel is another of Shanghai Dim Sum's popular signatures.
This was my second time tasting this dish at Shanghai Dim Sum. Today, the chef seemed to be a little heavy handed with the savoury-salty sauce so it somewhat masked the delicate tangerine flavour as well as the beefiness.
The first time I tasted Stir Fried Beef with Tangerine Peel at Shanghai Dim Sum, I could taste the beefy sweetness and refreshing tangerine flavour underlying the mild savoury sauce.
The Sticky Rice Cakes with Pork and Preserved Vegetables was another repeat order as we like the rice cakes' spongy bouncy texture. The soup and pork were mildly savoury sweet.
๐ The xiao long bao here at Shanghai Dim Sum is among the best that I have tasted anywhere, including in Shanghai. The fried chicken with cumin is an excellent dish too. I hope to be back to try more dishes here. Prices are reasonable.

I gotta try this. Next time you're in the area try Northern Dumpling Kitchen, 3 minutes away from this location. It's Ki-in and my favourite!
