Hong Kong buddy Joyce gifted me a box of butterfly cookies from FINE FOODS by The Royal Garden when she visited Singapore recently.
When I lifted the lid of the beautiful box, the first thing that struck me was the waft of buttery aroma.
In the hand, the beautiful golden brown, slightly glazed, original flavour butterfly cookie felt surprisingly light for its size.
The feather light puff pastry was delicately crackly, slightly flaky to the bite. As the crispy cookie quickly melted in my mouth, it tasted pleasantly buttery with just right sweetness i.e. not overly sweet.
The cookie is especially nice with my usual mildly bitterish coffee which I have with milk but sans sugar. The butterfly cookie provided the sweet and buttery flavours for my morning coffee. (I didn't dunk the butterfly cookie in the coffee - just have them together.)
Thank you Joyce for the delicious gift 😋 I enjoyed it a lot.
Next time I am in Hong Kong, I am sure to pay FINE FOODS by The Royal Garden a visit. They have other fine cakes and pastries, as well as other interesting flavours of butterfly cookies which I want to try.
FINE FOODS' palmier cookie came up tops in this taste test of 9 famous brands in Hong Kong by Swiss pastry Chef and renowned baker Gregoire Michaud.
