Hainanese Boneless Chicken Rice is the most popular chicken rice stall in Golden Mile Food Centre. It tastes good
and is one of the cheapest chicken rice in Singapore, starting at $2.50 a
serving.
Got to thank Uncle Bob for patiently queuing for this chicken rice. There is always a queue at Hainanese Boneless Chicken Rice stall and the wait is actually worse than it looks. The call in orders actually made the wait at least doubly long.
Actually, my first reaction (silently to myself) when Uncle Bob went to queue for this was
"Aiyoh, we already got a list of stalls to try leh. This isn't in the plan woh.... ".
Actually, I said actually five times already so far 🤦
Uncle Bob came back with a tasting portion for four of us to share. Actually, it turned out to be nicer than I expected.
Everything about it was right - the tender juicy meat, sweet-savoury dressing sauce, aromatic savoury sweet nutty texture rice, flavoursome chili and ginger
dip.
We decided there and then that we shall be back for at least half a
bird for a fair and proper tasting.
And so, here we are the next day for the works. Everything here plus four plates of rice for $13. Price for half a bird was $9. Other stalls in the same hawker centre sell half birds for at least $12 (which I feel is already a good deal).
Today, my turn to queue. We were early at 11am and thinking that I am the first and only person in the queue, I was a little annoyed surprised that I actually waited maybe some 20 minutes because of call in
orders.
Pro-tip: Call in ☎ 6298 6270 ☎ 9669 8448 to beat the queue. If you can't beat them, join them 😄
The stall is named Hainanese Boneless Chicken Rice but actually you can ask them not to debone the bird (if you, like us, prefer your bird served with bone).
The sauce was thick and today it was savoury-sweet while the previous day it was sweet-savoury. Makan kakis prefer the previous day's taste profile but I like today's more as I felt it was rather too sweet the previous day.
Anyway, though quite assertive, the savoury-sweet dressing did not
overwhelm the chicken's natural sweet taste.
I like their rice a lot. The race quality was generally good with some chipped grains but the savoury flavour and aromas were robust. I enjoyed chewing the tender nutty rice which complemented the soft chicken marvellously. Some folks may find the rice slightly on the stiff side but I like its nutty bite. Just 50 cents a serving.
Both the chili and ginger dips were watery but actually quite flavourful. Catherine thinks the chili is excellent. It is actually quite sharp spicy.
Actually, not a bad chicken rice and at this price point, one of the best in Singapore
