Caffe Zeppin @ Midview City ๐Ÿณ The sambal fried rice & half fried / cooked omelette is a match made in heaven

Zeppin, Zeppin, Zeppin and splashes of runny omelette posted by Aaron keep popping up in my Facebook feed. Saved post, saved post for a year already, we finally made it to Caffe Zeppin to have what Aaron has long been having raving about. (Aaron couldn't join us as he was celebrating his princess Kira's one year old birthday ๐ŸŽ‚ )

Caffe Zeppin is a simple, clean, bright, no frills restaurant with air conditioning, which is a blessing in this sweltering season. The restaurant is busy during lunch. Most customers come from the offices in the same building or near by.

Four of us, we ordered two servings of Aaron's favourite "Half Fried / Cooked Omelette" which would make Aaron proud.

It is easy to like this slurpy smooth runny egg dressed with a sweet savoury sauce and a bit of aromatic oil. There's toasted sesame seeds and bits of fried garlic sprinkled on top. It is exactly what the somewhat clumsy name said it is - half fried / cooked omelette.

The fried rice in this Sambal Fried Rice with Cutlet packs a savoury sweet spicy punch. Not overly greasy, soft, fluffy, the subtly sweet pearl rice grains were well infused with quite robust savoury spicy flavours. There's even a bit of wok hei toasty taste and also egginess as it was fried with eggs.

The chicken cutlet though I couldn't remember much as the piece I had, had slightly thick floury batter and was a bit flat savoury-salty tasting.

The sambal fried rice and the half fried / cooked omelette is a pair made in heaven. Aaron is spot on - it would be a perfect happy meal for me just by having these two together.

We actually wanted stewed pork trotter but it was not available. So, we settled for this Stir Fried Pork Belly.

The tissue thin strips of pork belly were stir fried with lots of sweet-savoury sauce and crunchy onions. The curly ribbons of fat and lean meat were floppy soft and the main flavour was sweetness from the pork, sauce and onion with a savoury-salty overlay.

Stir fried Green Dragon Chive. Slightly overdone hence the slight yellowing but we can still taste the vegetable's natural sweet green flavour and it was still crunchy-chewy and juicy.

Dumpling Soup. The dumplings loosely packed with minced pork and chives were delicious. I didn't have spoonfuls of the soup but from what was clinging to the dumplings, it was porcine sweet-savoury. Nice.

This lala clams stir fried with hae bee hiam was complimentary and not on the menu. It's probably because someone dropped Aaron's name ๐Ÿ˜›

The la la clams weren't large but they were fresh, very well cleaned and taste sweet. With the savoury spicy hae bee hiam it was an awesome blend of robust flavours.

Aaron never had this before and it made him very jealous ๐Ÿ˜‚

Four of us, we barely touched the surface of the wide range of dishes that Zeppin Caffe offer. They have salads, rice bowls, ramen, bento, Western, Taiwanese, local delights etc.

Definitely will be back for more. Nice food, comfortable environment, reasonable pricing, and soon just 5 minutes walk from Bright Hill MRT station on the Thomson - East Coast Line.

Hi Aaron, what other dishes shall we try? ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ™

By the way, to the last question, yeah that pork trotter is my wife's favorite. Seafood soup not bad too. The fried rice normal one also good. As you mentioned, it's well fried- I'm always more impressed cos they actually fry it well (wok hei) with pearl rice.
And just eat more of the lava egg bah. Hehe..
Their version of lu rou fan I like. But I have had differing feedback on that. But even in Taiwan, all the lu rou fan in all the night markets also slightly different one. So there's that.
