I love Thai crab omelette and have been on the look out for the best in Singapore. Wilbur of AroiMakMak pointed me to Warm Up Cafe at Mackenzie Road. Thank you for your recommendation ๐
Signages are pretty prominent but can be blocked by vehicles (e.g. lorry) parked right in front of the restaurant.
If you wondered about the quirky name "Warm Up Cafe", it is named after the hottest night club in Chiang Mai by the same name, "Warm Up Cafe". Google it on YouTube and you will see what I mean by "hottest".
Ask to go to the back and the waitress will take you to the patio behind the restaurant. Nowadays, I prefer al fresco dining, even if it is humid and hot ๐
They have an extensive menu that runs over ten pages - there's boat noodles, mookata, salad, rice, noodles, meat (beef, pork & chicken), seafood, soup, dessert, etc.
I will definitely be back with more buddies to attack the menu but today, I am here just for the crab omelette. I love the way the dish was presented, in a nice heavy ceramic plate and saucer. Oh..., in case anyone thinks that this was all crab and eggs, it was actually crab omelette over a mound of boiled rice. Price $10+.
The omelette was thick, moist, almost creamy inside and generously studded with crab meat. Okay..., the meat weren't pulled out of cooked live crabs but they did have a mild crab meat sweetness and there weren't any off-taste at all.
I do enjoy the moist soft juiciness of the omelette with the soft squeaky bite of the crab meat. The egginess and mild crab sweetness complemented each other well.
Crab omelette over rice. An affordable, dependable one dish meal for a busy work day.
The saucer of hot chili sauce provided sour, savoury, spicy flavours to the eggy sweet omelette and rice.
A simple quick bite but I am pleased with the food and vibes at Warm Up Cafe. I will surely be back to try out more of their extensive menu. I suspect my buddies and I will have a good time at Warm Up Cafe.
