Stalking Eunos Crescent Market & Food Centre, I saw that the popular Fu Chun Laksa & Lor Mee stall was open (while their famous neighbour Chao Yang Fishball Noodle was off today).
Instinctively, I slotted in behind the queue.
Note that the stall doesn't have English signage. Just look for stall #01-25, in the inside row.
Just two items on the menu - laksa $3.50 and lor mee $3.50.
I added $1 worth of fried fish nuggets to the $3.50 and was delighted with the amount of food I got 😄 So much fish nuggets, macam (looks like) fish and chips like that.
Fu Chun is very generous with free flow, self help fresh raw garlic, red chili pepper, cilantro and sambal. I just took what I need 😌
I forgot to get a squeeze of black vinegar 😅
The soul of this dish, the lor is starch thicken well balanced relatively mild savoury sweet sauce. The level of intensity was just right for me. The raw garlic, chili pepper, cilantro and sambal added more flavours and layers of spicy heat. It tasted good.
Buried in the noodles and lor were stewed pork belly, fried handmade pork balls and half a stewed egg. The fried pork balls had nice Chinese 5 spice flavour.
They were so generous with the big fish nuggets. The nuggets encasing pieces of dory fish inside were deep fried to a golden crisp outside. The doughy nuggets sponged up the lor pretty fast and lost their crispness quickly. They infused the lor's savoury sweet spicy flavours. The dory fish inside were soft and didn't have much flavour.
Next time, I shall request them to put the fish nuggets in a separate bowl or in a bag (ask at your own risk, I have not done this before 😝 ).
