This wasn't on our Shilin Night Market eat-list. Yeah, we planned an eat-list so that we don't miss anything and to ration our stomach space. We didn't have 食來運轉 in mind.
But, seeing this queue at 食來運轉 got us excited - we quickly re-ordered our agenda. Trying out what locals go for is always high on our priorities.
The entrance looked like a typhoon just swept by, didn't appear the most welcoming 😅
Anyway, I went in to check out the territory first. It's a long narrow space, gritty, worn, spartan furnishings, but packed full of youthful energy.
It's a youth hangout, hideout - what are you doing here unker?
But, no lah. The folks here were very friendly and didn't mind unker looking over their shoulders to see what they were eating 🤭 They even explained the dishes to me 🙏

Simple one dish meals of rice with mains and, vegetable, tofu sides and sauce.
Fried mains were popular. Prices are considered good value for money in Taipei.
香酥雞腿飯 Aromatic Crispy Chicken Leg with Rice (TW$150 or SG$6.60).
We only ordered this chicken chop with rice to share as we don't have budget....🤭 I mean tummy budget 😅
We wanted to try as many Taiwanese chicken chops as possible during this trip and this looked like the most popular dish at 食來運轉.
The main show, the chicken chop was a huge, thick slab of chicken leg cut into two meaty chunks.
The well browned batter outside was crunchy crisp and not overly greasy.
The thick meat inside was tender moist, slightly sweet. Together with the crispy crust, they made a most enjoyable fried chicken chop.
Afternote: This was our first day in Taipei. We tried a few more chicken chop places later. A few were notable but this at 食來運轉 turned out to be the best of this trip.
Free flow of drinks. It was very very sweet 😬
Also free flow of boiled white rice with lo rou (stewed pork) and sauce which we couldn't indulge in seconds (too full already as we were eating since day break 🤭 ).
Lo rou fan or stewed pork over rice with fried chicken chop - win already lo.
